W202 C200 Gear Serious Problem

Hello everyone,

I have a really serious problem with my car gear while driving...
as I put the gear in "D" and start driving it sometimes wouldn't change to the next gear,
and than I have to play with the gear handle myself....

What's even more annoying is:
while driving the road in driving gear ("D"), it's just suddenly shifts to lower gear for no reason while the handle is still on D!!

I mean you just start to drive and the speed goes up: 10.....20.....30......40......50.... Than BOOM! there's a big knocking sound
and all of a sudden you're back at 15 km/h..... my temp solution is driving on 4th gear and avoid "D"....

As far as I know it might be the gear conductor that needs to be replaced (I've already checked the gear bushing and it's fine....)

Does anyone have any other idea about what might cause the problem and what else worth checking?

I really do love my benz and I want to heal it.

Thanks ahead for anyone who will reply :)

You didn't list what year you have but check your vacuum tubes for leaks and cracks in the nipples where it connects (and that they are even connected - both to the transmission and the intake manifold or wherever.) Make sure the oil level is correct and not too old, make sure the bowden cable and kick down are set correctly, the modulator could also be the cause.

He mentioned the conductor plate issue, he doesn't have any vacuums lines going to the transmission. Indeed it seems like the conductor plate is on its way out. The good news is despite this feeling pretty bad when it happens, your transmission can handle the abuse. Replacing the conductor plate and putting in fresh fluid and filter and everything should go back to normal (or perhaps be even better than normal).
