There is another thread discussing 70's vs. 80's cars. but my questionis is which is hte best built benz regardless of diesel/petrol/2 vs. 4 door/G-wagen or anything else. How about the W124 is it hte "best built benz". I mean W123 is excellent but it IS crude and loud. and if we are talking of best then these factors need to be considered.:boxing_smiley:

They are two entirely different cars, yet both where built at the highest points of Mercedes Engineering. I do agree the w124 does lack character, however I find it much more refined and modern than a w123 chassis. Personally I prefer character. Besides the w123 has a more utilitarian air to it. I love the idea of owning a classic beautiful luxury sedan, while being able to tow my sailboat to the launch. Also I think the w123 has better ground clearance. Not that I off road, but it helps on rough unpaved launches.
If I was to buy a w124 the first thing I would do is change the headlights to the eurospec
