the info was from mercedes themselves.....
they teamed with renault on a "common parts" enterprise.... just as nearly all other manufacturers have.
the new vito and new renault will use the same major body shell... only "minor" parts like wings, bumpers, lights, wheels etc will be different on the 2 makes.
the "standard" engine is renault designed and engineered... the "bluetec" vito engine is pure mercedes.. the "blue" renault has not yet ben settled, probably a largely renault product with the mercedes "blue" additions (being kept "secret" until launch)
the vito has a much higher service life and longer service intervals.
my own vito tourer is fantastic.... much better than the previous models (but I still love my 638 traveliner) and mpg averages at 42mpg in normal driving and up to 47mpg at around 60 on the motorway..
my only real complaint is the stop-start system.... it has a weakness as you enter and leave roundabouts... if you slow rapidly onto the roundabout and quickly (without pause) accelerate hard away, it sometimes (quite often) cuts the engine... problem is the inertia doesn't "catch" it as a normal car would.. and you have to turn off.. clutch down and restart (engine only starts with clutch fully down)
I haven't yet trusted its self-steering ability, where it will position between 2 lines or kerb and line or a metre from the edge... and keep itself at this position.... with cruise "on" (cruise and speedtronic speed limiter are now standard) it will happily (I'm told) drive and steer itself without help...... maybe one day, I've only "played" with it and I'm not too sure if I can trust it over a distance.... self parking is bad enough.
oh yes..... the only other thing is ÂŁ47 for a pair of front wipers.... only in pairs... only from mb
I think the "service" pack covering up to 3 main services a year is good value.... and the "full pack" at around ÂŁ30 per month is a bargain if you drive a lot... it covers ALL bills, ALL parts, ALL repairs (not bodywork) for life of vehicle (max 30yrs... YES 30 YEARS)
