I have been trying for weeks to reset srvice interval indicator using previous posts on this forum to no avail. Eventually got it sorted - similar to other instructions:
1. Turn key to position 2
2. Immediately press button M once
3. Within ten seconds turn key back to 0
4. Press button M again and hold while turning key back to 2
5. Keep button pressed till you hear long beep and new service interval is displayed

By using a similar sequence I can access some sort of hidden menu with read only values - don't know what it means though, I can post pics of what it looks like. Anyhow this is how I got to that:

1. Turn key to position 2
2. Immediately press button M once
3. Within ten seconds turn key back to 0
4. Press button R and hold while turning key back to 2
5. Keep button pressed till you hear long beep and new service interval is displayed

For comparison, this is what my dash looks like.

I have a 639 111 CDI Van 2007 model. I tried the above and mine is a little different. I don't have the outside temp display and two get to the trip you need to press M once.

Therefore it's the same as above only press M twice instead of once then the same as above. :)

Thanks for the info, it's been bugging me to death.

there are a few different ways of resetting the service lights
1 older vito with m and r buttons turn ignition on press the m button until the service shows hold down the m switch ignition off and on fast service should reset
2 next newer vito m and o buttons switch ignition on wait about 40 seconds untill the service display changes to the mileage again hold down the 0 for 30 seconds or untill you hear a beep the press the m button to scroll through to the service hold down the 0 on the right oil grade a 2 should appear press the o again and the service is reset
3 vito with steering wheel control, ignition on the botom left button to scroll to the mileage press the top left to get to the service due hold down the 0 on the dash for about 30 seconds or until the beep press the bottom left button once then use the top left buton to scroll through to the service option relevent press the top right button to enter into it confirm with top left press 0 for 3 seconds to confirm
also oil grades do matter because the newer vito needs a low ash content oil if they have a diesel particulate filter
mercedes oil grade 228.3 = 15w40 mineral oil. 228.5 = 10w40 synthetic 228.51 = 10w40 low ash oil the you will see the options on the newer vitos ( .51 =low ash ) sorry if any info is wrong i am doing this from memory

Service reset light Vito 111 cdi

I have a 58 plate vito van 111 cdi which has sat nav and multi-function steering wheel. I need to know how to reset the service light after an oil change or is there a tool that anyone knows which is available. I don't know if it's possible to do it without a tool as I don't have the same buttons being mentioned on this site. I have a plus and minus, a nought and the oil measurement light but no M or R. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I've just done my first DIY oil and filter change on my '05 115 dualiner. I've subsequently tried all of the suggested methods of resetting the indicator and none of them have worked for me. I have the M & R buttons, no steering wheel controls. The indicator is flashing '-241' at me and increasing the figure. Any suggestions would be helpful.

The other thing that has happened is that the stereo has gone dead, which seemed to coincide with my pressing buttons and turning ignition on and off. Is this pure coincidence or have I upset something in the electronics (possibly). I haven't had the chance to take the head unit back to the installer as it went on a sunday - the sunday I had to drive family 200+ miles to Cornwall for weeks hols!

Just got it sorted. I used these instructions -

"Ensure ignition switched off

Switch ignition on and imediately press the top button on the left of the dash twice

Within 10 seconds turn ignition off

Press and hold top left button , switch ignition on and continue to hold button in

The remaining distance will be displayed, then after 10 secs the new remaining distance will be displayed and you will hear a warning sound

Release button

Job done"

It was the pushing the top button twice that seemed to make the differance.

I have Vito W639 2006 with M and R buttons, my service indicator was -41, i.e. 41 days overdue. Tried all above and did not work. Went to expensive Mercedes Service Centre and bribed tech with pack of Ginger Nut biscuits. He explained if service indicator is not overdue under, the process as described above will work i.e turn key to position 2 and immediately press M (usually twice) then turn off within 10 secs, etc. BUT if overdue DO NOT immediately press M, but wait for initial diagnostics to finish. In my particular case I have an LA:01 error code that comes up (Not even Mercedes tech could tell me what this is, if any knows?) this lasts for about 40 secs then stops, he then pressed M twice, turn off within 10 secs, turned on holding M wait beep then service indicator was reset.

I have a 2008 Vito 115 cdi and it was showing 730 days (seems that's as high as it can go as it was actually over by more, but that's where it stayed) It also had a big and a small spanner showing and beeped each time I turned the ignition on.
Mine has M and O buttons on the left side of the guages - No buttons on the steering.

I tried everything from this thread and others but never managed to sort it out until about 2 weeks ago when I managed to reset 31 and 51 which are evidently an oil service indicator and a service interval indicator.
My spanners are gone and it no longer shows days or beeps - what a pleasure.

Here's what I did...
  • Turn ignition to position 2 (all dash lights are now on)
  • Hold down the O button for about 20 seconds until you hear a beep
  • When you hear the beep, let go the O button and press the M button (you should now be in the service menu)
  • Use the M button to toggle through the menu until you get to the service section
  • When you get to "reset 31" which is evidently an oil service, press and hold the O button until the number 2 appears. Press O and it shows "done"
  • Move to the next service by pressing M and it will show "reset 51"
  • The procedure is the same as for "reset 31" - hold the O button until the number 2 appears. Press O and it shows "done"
  • Turned ingition off.
  • Turn ignition on and it should be nice and clear.
All the best
Mike

I've just read an article that states "reset 31" is for a 20,000km service interval .and "reset 51" is for a 30,000km service interval. Didn't find anything about a 10,000km service.
I'm not sure what interval mine will be set to now as I reset both of them?

Right now it doesn't bother me at all as my Vito still will not start.
Key works fine, ignition lights up, next turn to engage starter and there is nothing, no click, no dimming of lights, just nothing.
It sucks
