Turbo a W211? Not a newb to turbo charging.

I'm new to this board and own a 2004 E320.I like the car but it could use a little more umph.I have turbocharged several high compression 10:1 V-6 mitsubishi engines in the past and was able to run low boost 8-10psi on 93 oct. I have been considering this for the 320. I know how to build the fuel system, how to tune and what it takes to make the car run safely.
I was very familiar with the motors I turbocharged before and they used a simple hybrid obd1/2 ECU and I was able to add larger injectors, fuel fump and tune with a simple SAFC.I montiored EGT,boost, and air/fuel and always had a safe tune on pump 93 Oct.
My concern is with the ECU and the on board computers Mercedes uses.I am not familiar enough (yet) with the W211 to even know if you can upgrade injectors or if there is a stand alone or piggy back I can use.If anyone here has turbocharged a 2004 and up E320 then I would like to see what is invoved electronically. The building of the turbo system is the least of my concerns considering It would be a low output system, under 12psi.
Why do this? Because even low boost,6psi would add about 50-60 h.p.without adding that much weight.I would turn this into a different automobile.Plus there is more than enough room under the hood.
Thanks,Mike

To get back on track, Sully the OP asked about turbo-charging the durable M112 engine with the strong 722.6 transmission in the car he already has as his platform. He seems very knowledgeable about pros-cons of turbocharging.

Seems like a viable platform. Maybe someone, somewhere has already done this?

Thanks,I know what you mean about spending more than it's really worth. I have some good connections on the stuff to build the system but as I mentioned i don't want to build something that is ill tuned and hard to drive. The fact that there is a kit (kleeman) shows the car will handle low boost.I just wonder how much tweeking the ECU took? Some cars are over built from the factory and have enough fuel pump and injector to run low boost in stock form without maxing out the injectors. If this is the case then the ECU will have to be reflashed but it won't be a total nightmare.

Sounds like I need to see how much boost the Kleeman kit makes, the injector size and if they run a larger or second fuel pump. This will give me a ball park on cost and then I can look into the cost of reflashing the ECU. I won't go broke doing this.If everything falls into place then I will consider it.I enjoy this car and won't bastardize it doing a half ass job.

The last car I turbocharged was FWD weighed 3200lbs and trapped 112mph at 8psi.(no traction)Cruising 70MPH..foot to the floor and like that you were at 130mph.When i was at hwy speed and overtaking a car it was almost impossible to stop from hitting 100 mph in the time it took to pass. The high CR spools smaller turbo's instantly. It's something that you start to miss after a while.

I will give it a lot of thought, not something I will jump into.

Anything can be done, but at what price? It would be cheaper to just find a V-8 model and
get over 300hp stock and around 330lbs of torque.
The ECU reprogramming and larger injectors will cost more than the the turbo and the
exhaust plumbing. There is a point of diminishing return on a project like this for a MB.
A admire your ambition and if you still want to do it you probably already know that
Garrett can supply the turbo and most likely has a place that can do the ECU. Bigger
injectors can require a larger fuel pump hard to source one that fits this chassis.
The other option is a blower from Kleemann. They have it all, the pump, the injectors and the
ECU. However you could be into an AMG E55 for the money Kleemann will get.
