Best run was 12.9@109.

Sure suprised all the 'muscle' cars out there. Actually I only lost 1 race...that was a motorcycle that ran a 10.0 at 135!

very little left foot braking

I lauched at less than 2000 rpm. making sure that I raised the rpm only after the 1st ready light. I find that lauching above 2K leads to too much tire spin. It also heats the intake air up considerbly, hence I wait to the last second to rev it.

I have a consistant 2.0 - 2.1 60 foot time. I shoould be able shave some time with drag slicks.

Mods are Renntech ECU, pulley kit, brakes, suspension, monlite wheels.

Is +18 hp and +35 tq what Renntech advertised for the changes you had done?

I would say that the average of stock based on postings here is about 300 hp/290 tq. Just curious what Renntech claimed the increase would be with the changes that were done. +35 tq is pretty strong.

Why did you do the Renntech mod's to your SLK32?!!!!!!!!

I've known about Renntech for years -- and they're not very well respected in the race-shop/tuner industry. 'Animals', 'Butchers', 'their stuff breaks all the time'.
I've considered MKB to get another 50 hp and another 75 ftlbs -- but I've never considered Renntech....What gives? How long have you had 'em? How do you like it?

Tuner envy

'I've known about Renntech for years -- and they're not very well respected in the race-shop/tuner industry. 'Animals', 'Butchers', 'their stuff breaks all the time'.'

OH BOY - what facts do you have on that? In over 10 years of testing by major magazines RT has had 1 bad showning. A 6 liter supercharged CLK that failed due to a mass air sensor....a STOCK MB part!

The lastest review of a RT car was in Novembers' Car & Driver.
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/features/2001/november/200111_specialtyfile_renntech.xml?keywords=renntech

and from 2000 http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/roadtests/2000/August/200008_minitest_renntech_clk60.xml?keywords=renntech

Car and Driver speaks volumes about RT attention to detail...certain not the butchers you call them
Need I remind you that RT cars have won on many occasions the One Lap of America Race. A true test of durability. RT cars have consistantly been in the top 3 in this race. What other 'TUNERS' are you taking about? MKB - NEVER NEVER SEEN A MKB car tested in a major magazine, or any magazine for that fact. Never seen one in a race. Never even seen a Brabus or a Lorinser in a race.

Anyway I choose RT because I can buy a Renntech car at a Mercedes dealership and not void my warrenty. Renntech are availaible new through certain MB dealers. If Mercedes Benz things that the quality of work is good enough to stock...that's good enough for me. I have driven and owned Renntechs before including a 7.4L 600hp SL, which my friends father has. He has driven over 15K miles and not one hickup. Not bad for a daily driver with a 4 year warrenty.

Sorry but statements like this get to me because of all the false information out there. I have have my SLK for about 6 months and have had nothing but good things to say about the upgrades.

As for not being respected in the race-car/ tuner shop you are flat out wrong and been listening to the wrong people.

Sorry if you were offended, but I asked the questions because

I wanted the answer. Do you have a Renntech modified SLK32, or a 230 or 320? My understanding at this point in time was that performance mods weren't too available for the SLK32 yet, because tuners hadn't had enough time yet to engineer, try out, prove, re-modify, and make available to the public mods that are worth doing -- it takes a year, year-and-a-half usually to do so. I worked for the guy who developed the supercharger that's in the SLK32. He regularly works with AMG and a whole slew of others -- knows the guys personally, has for years. When he took his E55, he browbeat a certain individual at AMG about the 'measly' 302(?)hp V-8, and got them working on a supercharger. They came out with a version that was of a type that would result in a $20,000 USD pricetag for the mod to the consumer. He convinced them to go with the type that he'd been successfully using for years -- in all probability he probably either designed it for them or tested and consulted for them. In any event, the guy's no slouch; and I'm not even gonna blow you away with a list of all of the goodies out there that this guy dreamed up, designed, and built and tested -- that everyone of us is using now. I won't go too far in mentioning him or speaking for him without his permission. Suffice it to say that he doesn't have anything ready for the SLK32 yet. I thought that only MKB had anything out there. So if Renntech is doing something, and you've got it, I'm real interested in what you've got, how much you like it, and what it cost you. Perhaps I should have just asked the questions without the incredulity, or the less than diplomatic comments concerning Renntech...but do you have a thin skin?
It certainly wasn't my intention to offend. I'm here because I want to learn from, and share with, others. I am interested in any performance mods for the SLK32....

Yes, LN 32, JD, and I all had about 300/290. Most C32s make about 295hp according...

to the C32Life board so I agree with Linh. How many miles were on your car when you did baseline. We have seen the HP numbers increase as the car puts on miles. LN32 first tests were about 290hp but she later tested at 302 I believe.

No offense taken

Here is a good point. The supercharger that was in the 6L CLK is that exact supercharger that will be in the SL55 and the same type in the 32.

Renntech was the first tuner to actualy install it in a road car about 2 years ago! Mr Fehyl from RT had an agreement with AMG not to let anyone photograph it until the SL55 is released. Even when C&D tok pictures of the engine, you never see the kompressor. This is the high level of work that RT performs. And its also indicative of the respect that AMG has for RT. Keep in mind the Mr Fehyl is the guy who designed the Hammer engine. Certainly not a hack job.

Most likely Mr Fehyls path and your buddies surley crossed at one time. I'd encourage you stop by RT if you are ever in Florida and draw your own conclusions.

Sorry if I was abrasive in my prior post, it's just that most forums seem to bash RT and it's always a forum that is sponsored by a company that dosen't sell its parts. The truth of the matter is the RT parts are not cheap and most aftermarket speed shops will not carry it due to the fact of the low profit margin. They can make much more money selling a H&R spring kit that a RT tuned spring kit.

well....

If MB claims 349 at the crank and you take a 19% drivetrain loss. That's 282 at the rear wheels.

But in either event my car was brand new when dyno'd and I'm it most likely wasn't making full power....and it all depends on the dyno itself. The car only had about 200 miles on it. Also realize no 2 dyno machines are identicial.

Huh, now I wounder if I'm down on power?? Maybe I'll get it dyno'd again. MB motors have a knack of performaing better with some miles on it.

Actually I think you'll find as you put some miles on the car...

it will get stronger. I think 282 with only 200 miles on the car would be about right. I had almost 4000 miles on my car and several have noted that the car gets stronger with miles. The first time LN32 tested she got about 290 but she likely had more than just 200 miles. Later, with more miles, your car will likely be 330 or better. So all in all, good news.

I really like to know what the drive train loss really is in an SLK32.
