Hi,

the leather is cracked on top of the steering wheel, please see picture below. Any suggestions on repairing this? Is there a DIY way to do this properly, or should I bring it to a leather repair place? Thanks in advance!

The wheel on my C240 got really bad, so I researched options. There are many methods on The Internet that use sanding, filler chemicals, and dyes. Another alternative is to re-wrap the leather. I found a place that sells "better than OE" kits for around $150 (DIY) or $300 for them to install it (you ship them your wheel). I talked to them about DIY and they highly discourages it saying is is very tedious work and most all DIYers screw it up. I ended up finding a good used on on eBay for about $100.

I have an 05 SL500 and notice more of a scuffing or wearing of the dye from use. The surface of the leather is not damaged as I have always kept the car in a garage and out of the Florida Sun. My need is more for a matching dye treatment. My interior is Stone and thus, the steering wheel is the darker of the two-three colors in that interior package. Any information on a specific color-matched dye would be quite welcomed.
