So for the last year, my starter has been getting weak, and as the weather gets warmer it seems to be worse, my assumptions are that as the heat expands things become tighter perhaps, either way I decided to replace it this week. Managed to avoid dropping front exhaust, only issue was I was provided with the wrong new starter motor initially but got there in the end ! (Hope this video helps others)

When my SL550 starter got slower and slower, I bought a replacement on Amazon for it. Held onto it for a few months. When ready to install it was the wrong starter. Had no numbers on it or anything. I think it was a "re-manufactured" unit of some kind. Maybe the car is lucky we didn't use that POS. Luckily I have a mobile indy guy who I could call, he was ten minutes away, came and looked, left and returned with a brand new Bosch starter and installed it. Starter cost around $200 and labor was about the same. Best to only use genuine mercedes or Bosch parts for things like starter, alternator, water pump, etc., in fact, very important!
