i have just removed my vacuum pump for the soft close system on my 1992 w140. it would reset after removing the fuse but after a few operations would stop again.
WHen pulling out the pump in the truck i found that the end nipple had been broken off probably when the pump was last pulled out or in...I have also found that when you pull off the hoses (and probably never off before) a small section of the nipple has broken off being stuck to the fitting. Pics attached.

Can the nipples be replaced or do i need to source a replacement 2nd hand one or new if still available??'

Look forward to hearing any information my members...

thank you

These units can be repaired, although I'm not aware of DIY fixes for broken plastic nipples. I'm sure someone here will chime in if possible though.

Otherwise, Programa carries rebuilt pumps, and will also rebuild your pump as well if you send it in to them. Not the cheapest option, but you'll have a basically new and fully warrantied part:

Yea they can be fixed, but it not is just about fixing the pump, but fixing the USER too - why did that happen????

The vehicle does not do that to the pump???

You need these tools made from very hard plastic-NOT METAL !!!! as plastic gives and flexes a bit....

I use the 2nd to the left tool exclusively, but the 3rd to the left will work, but you must have the touch, or you can break the nipples, and I move the tool in a back n forth clock pattern while prying up...

l have had the car for about 2 years and the soft close door system only worked when you reset it by pulling the fuse. i decided to check on the pump and after pulling it from the trunk found that the end nipple had been broken off. trying to pull off the remaining hoses i found that due to the age and not have been off before they were stuck to the nipples and the small pieces broke off. can you buy just the nipple pieces as spares?? I have seen remanufactured ones for about $400.

I just replace the whole solenoid pack with the nipples on those pumps as that is the most logical thing to do.

The glue thing works, but for these pumps it more practical here in the USA to replace it. The door lock pump is the one I fix the nipples as that pump is programmed to the car to a certain degree for the features it has.

Mercedes does not sell nipples, so most of us fixing pumps take the parts from scrap pumps...

I occasionally have the issue where the soft-close ceases function until I pull the #9 fuse, but it only happens when I close the trunk and even then only sometimes.

I believe there's a thread on here explaining how to actually fix that issue (I think it's just a setting on the pump itself) but it hasn't been a major annoyance for me so I haven't done it yet.
