Side light Parking light problem

Hi and welcome to BenzWorld! :grin

I haven't come across this problem before, to be perfectly honest.

The actuation of the right "standing and parking lamp" E2e3 is done by the SAM (Signal Acquisition & Actuation Module) N10, as is for all exterior lights, and there's no separate power supply (or a fuse) for any of the lights, unless you have a cornering function.

Just to clarify - the right position light never works at all - i.e. when rotary switch is at 1st or 2nd positions to the right of "0", or is it only not working, when you turn the switch to the left, for actual parking lights?

No worries :grin Always happy to help.

Right - I understand now, and it's less puzzling - first I thought you get the position light with dipped beam, but not when turned to parking only lights.

Yes, of course I can tell you the wire colour: grey-yellow (GYYE). Headlight plug, pin 5. SAM connector 8, pin 20. Ground point W3/1.

You'd need to check the wiring diagram (SAM part3), also remember - Mercedes differentiate between capital and small letters in their coding, so it's E2e3 - the capital letter denoted a [light] unit, number - its position on the car, starting from left front, small letter and number identify a bulb within the unit.

It is surprising you're not getting 'bulb out' error on the dash, so first things I would check:

O/S headlight plug
Relevant ground point
SAM - corresponding plug and relay

Also, always check the water drains - two each side of the windscreen, and most importantly - the central one, under the cabin filter, which needs to be removed, to see it. It is often overlooked, and if blocked, could let the water into the battery and fuse box compartment, and onto SAM. Once checked, make sure the filter is fitted back correctly, with outer flaps going over the ridges (it'll make sense when you see it).

It's a bit tricky to get to the SAM, so start with other bits. These files should help.

Almost forgot - the position light holder is way too deep inside the headlight (particularly the Avantgarde projector type), and it's almost impossible to grab it sufficiently to pull the holder out, so everyone end up pulling it by the wires. As you can imagine - that's not doing it any favours.

So much so, I actually made a little gadget to pull the holder safely, but that's not what I'm on about: check there's a good connection in the bulb holder itself, if not - it can be replaced easily.

(I have a spare headlight to play with these things LOL)
