Rear Differential Oil Change - Which or Any 75W-90?

Whilst I've got my car on jacks doing a 722.6 service I may as well change out the rear diff oil.

From what I can gather 75W-90 gearbox fluid will work fine and the trans case holds just over 1L?

Any suggestions on specific oil to grab or will any 75W-90 do?

Thanks IA

ANY 90 weight GL-5 gear oil is fine, except Lucas or Royal Purple, they are junk. Here's an AMSoil corrosion test that shows their weak additive package.

Typical older 75w-90 will sheer down to the 80/85 range, that's why the newer specs allow the thinner gear oils, because the newer formulas will not sheer much. It's mostly a ploy by MB to gain a little mpg, that's about it.

Mobil 1 or Valvoline are as good as it gets. Valvoline driveline fluids are dirt cheap on Amazon, I use their MTF in a few cars.

After much Goggling etc I've pretty much gone Fuchs across the board on all my major oils/fluids inc ATF/Rear Diff/Coolant as they crop up on MBs approved lists nearly every time.

Whilst I'm new to this DIY servicing game, I like to try and do things properly especially as Im finding myself loving this old Merc more than I thought.

The oil industry is very secretive , misterious and not what it seems.

There has been a major manufacturer first fill of Fuchs whilst the oil cap displays.... recommends Castrol and paying an eye watering sum for the privalage .
Doesn't every manufacturer 'recommend' Castrol or Mobil lol

It's like they stick the name of the highest bidder on the lids? HAHA
