Seat kits - any recommendations

Hi,

Car: 1995 SL 320 - Leather is described as Pebble - looks tan to me.

So I have sourced a few places that have seat kits and so far Auto Tops Direct have what appear to be what I want.

I need to replace the seat bottoms on both drivers and passenger side and I want any input from anyone who has done this and went with a kit. I took my seats to the local auto upholstery shop but to repair the seats with vinyl was going to run me $1200 and then there was a colour matching issue.

So if you have any advice - let me hear it.

Cheers - Eric

GAHH automotive has excellent quality tops and seats. I have never attempted any re-leather project without an experienced seat fitter as my guide! Aside from a tuck, pleat, and roll job in the late 50's I now also buy the best in base materials, foam, webbing and even spring replacement. It is no longer "how cheap can I do something..." but now how comfortable will it end up!
Good luck with your project.

@ SRHsl600 - Thanks for the lead - I am going to try and repair them and make them my own - but if I botch it up I will look into their kits.

@ luigi4 - No Thank You - I needed a little push to try and see if I could do it. I bought this car so I could try out new stuff and so far it is looking good. I forgot to take before pictures - I went straight to dis-assembling them and now I am going to repair them - however I will take some pics when I put it back - perhaps that will help others who try it themselves.

Seat Covers - CLOTH

Ok, so I know this may be sacrilege, but I hate vinyl and I hate leather - too hot and too cold... Aside from going to my local upholstery shops, does anyone know if there is a supplier that will make me a set of "skins" in automotive fabric?

OEM cloth

Here are the patterns of the rare factory cloth.

I think it was only available in the European market.

The one with red checkers comes from a Mille Miglia edition.

I doubt anyone makes them.
Your closest bet to a similar pattern is from a w124 Sportline.

I've never used them but my car came with a set of slip-on covers for the seat, seat back, and headrest that can be put on when the top is down. I just looked and there is no "manufactures tag" so I don't know where they were made. It looks like it was made in a sailmaker's shop although the material looks more automotive than nautical. Or were you looking to replace your leather with cloth?

doesn't some one in europe make replacement plaid covers like we get the leather ones here in the US? I've looked but never could find them.

Here's my before-and-after picture for my 95 SL500. I bought the leather seat covers from lseat.com for $365 (including an extra $50 for the diamond pattern); ivory color with ivory thread. Took about 7 weeks to arrive. Took 7 hours to remove, replace and install the seats. To me the leather is thicker and more luxurious than the original. Although not shown in the after picture, now that the seat has been in the sun for a while, it's also tightening up to look even nicer. My interior color was mushroom (or palatino) originally; ivory on ivory is a very close match. And I haven't done the head rests yet.

I have these fabric seat covers in my 1992 300 SL :smile :smile Note that my car is an regular SL 300

The only fabric covered seats i have seen for sale is at ebay.de (Germany) and those seats where not the front seats but the children seats in the back (notsitze) in German

Any of my fellow members here on the forum seen these fabric seat covers used on Mercedes models other than the SL?
