I have been thinking about getting a tune performance on my SL550 and am wondering if there are any owners that have done this?
I have looked into Pressertech , has anyone used them for a tune performances?

They state (stage 2) will go from 430hp/518trq. to 540hp/715trq.

Thank you,
B,

I have a 2013 ML550 (same engine). Bought a Renntech plug in tune, and as you said now @ 540hp/715trq. Money well spent, no change in mpg (if you can keep your foot out of it), the ML surprised a few BMW 5 series. Can't imagine what it will do in a vehicle ~1,600 lbs lighter. Go for the Renntech, started by a former AMG exec. Read their "About Page".

I also have the 2013 ML 500. 550 in the US. I used a Varidian tune which bumped it up to 510hp. I also put K&N filters and an exhaust mod. The thing absolutely flies now. Takes a good car to beat her of the lights now. Lol

Ferrari, C63, Lamborghini, and especially corvette’s......when you see them in your mirror.....I guess that says it all. Truth be told, everyone I mentioned except the vet owners where very cordial ....talking at a light....but not the vet owner.....
They didn’t expect the outcome. But it’s all in some innocent fun.😁
I don’t think I would do well against certain models, truth be told...
But, as long as no one is going to get hurt,or in trouble.....

Game on👍

hey there. I have the same car. Just recently go an email from Todd Presser about Pressertech ECU tune
am very interested so I would like to know if you purchased it and how did I come out?
thanks ahead
As of yet I have not sent my ECU to pressertech. I’m a little concerned because I purchased an extend warranty (7 years) and am worried if I do the flash they will not cover the car should something go wrong . I spoke to Scott about the stage 2 tune which is what I was aiming for. He explained that it lets the engine breath much better than stock and the gas mileage improves as well as the massive upgrade in performance. He stated that it would destroy a C63 among others. I’m not into racing , just after performance. I don’t know if this happens to you but I get others on the road that want to instigate racing on the thruway. I have a clean drivers record and I want to keep it that way but once in while I will oblige...... I may purchase a separate ECU to have it flashed but I don’t feel good about that-ethically. It kinda sucks with these warranties, you can’t change anything......modifications. I don’t feel as though anything would happen to the engine/transmission but because there are very little issues with the 2013 SL 550 and up ....you really don’t know. But if I do have it flashed by Pressertech I’ll update it here, I still may and take my chances. 545hp/714 is very, very tempting 😉. Talk with Scott he is very informative and I feel very comfortable with him and the company (jmpo)😉

I went with RennTech. I can't say enough good things about them. Unbelievable performance, with no adverse effects. Can switch back to stock tune whenever needed. These guys have been around for a long time-for a reason. They know what they are doing and stand behind their product. I'm going to see if they will install a limited slip rear end for me.

Thanks for replying to this thread.
Can you elaborate on the HP/trq numbers,price...and how you install . Did you notice a difference in the performance? You mention limited slip, I was pulling in a driveway (in reverse) and I left a small tire burn on both the passenger and driver side-doesn’t the SL550 already have positive traction?(both rear wheels engage?
Thank you,

Renntech appears to have a user friendly plug n' play flash pack power device. The size of a garage door remote, you plug it into the dash and thats it; instantly the car gets a steroid rage from mild to wild. The device is claiming to add almost 60 Horsepower to the wheels and 119 Torque (which is where your feel your seat flex) for $2500. The company does have a solid reputation and proof to back it up. For the person looking to have a wild side but keep it on the hush, the fact that this device can be unplugged from the driver's seat as quickly and easily as your phone charger, ensures your taboo habit of melting pavement is kept a secret.
Pressertech can add the incentive of bargain for the bang delivering a claimed boost of 90 Horsepower and 120 Torque for only $1500 but here's the catch, your car is on Full Assault Mode at ALL times. That is, if you opt for the Stage 1, because according to them if you decide its just not vulgar enough, they can accommodate with a $$ Stage 2 tune if you insist on making your wife sh*# her pants. The ECU has to come off (no big deal but still, inconvenient) of your car, be shipped to Georgia where it's tuned by the GrandWizard, then shipped back to you and 3-5 business days later reinstalled onto your car (not very difficult but your white silk slacks could get dirty) so its drivable again. If you are not pleased with your tune, or decide it is too brutal for a daily driver, well, park it in the garage because the ECU has to come out of the car (no big deal but you get it) shipped to the Wizard in Kansas, etc., then get in touch with them and they'll give you your original file (tune ECU like factory) back again.
So, what's it gonna be? I know which one I'm going to get. 🚦🚀

Well,
You raise some very valid points. I don’t like the fact that I have to remove the ECU ,send it in,then reinstall it and I am stuck with it unless I want it reprogrammed . I do like the increase in hp/torque that pressertech offers. I’ve read a ECU tune is more substantial than the plug and play method. I wish someone would chime in and explain exactly what is the difference between the 2 and exactly what gets changed in a technical way. I thought about buying a new ECU and sending it to them to tune but that will run $3300.00 and I would have to physically change the ECU if I want it to go back to stock.
Thanks for your input 😉👍
