"Black" area is soaking wet.
Discovered this today, i think this happened rather quick, i would have noticed it sooner. We had much rain here lately and the road i live in is in very bad shape, but offcourse nothing a ML would be afraid of.
At first look I don't see anything obvious : wheaterstriping in good condition, inner fender good and in postition, no holes in the floor,...
Any thoughts before i start undoing things ?
Thanks.

Your front passenger side drain hole is probably clogged. Open your hood and inspect the area in front of windshield. Its better to remove the battery. If drain is clogged you need to open it by using metal dry cleaning hanger or more pro style. Watch very careful not to tear it. You may use chemical also. If that area is full of rain water it usually get inside through a plastic grommet which usually pops out. When you remove the battery check the grommets on the firewall.
There may be another fault which is clogged sunroof drains. You need to open them too.
Good luck.

That happened to me a couple of years back. It was the sunroof drain hose. The hose had "shrunk" over time and pulled lose from the nipple on the sunroof drain pan. Also, when I looked at the sunroof seal, I could see where it had "shrunk" in one of the corners, allowing the water to flow freely into the sunroof pan. BTW, the sunroof seal is not designed to keep water out of the sunroof. The sunroof has four drains at each corner -2ea front and back - to drain the water that may accumulate. From what I read of older posts, the problem always seems to be on the right side with the front passenger side being the worst culprit.

I would check the drain tube on the passenger side first. You access it by pulling the right A-pillar cover off, and removing that corner of the headliner. The A-pillar pops right off, just tug on it carefully. Droppig the headliner is a little more difficutl but not impossible.

The hose on my truch had shrunk so much that it would not hold on to the nipple. I pulled it back onto the nipple and re-installed the corner of the headliner and the A-pillar cover. But, by the next rainfall, it had pulled loose and the floor was soaked again.

After taking everything loose again, I replace the hose with a much-better clear plastic hose from the hardware store and secured it to the nipple with a zip tie. No problems since then.

Let us know what you find from your troubleshooting and repairs.

OK, the gommet behind the right front fender was in place but completely clogged. After cleaning it thoroughly i tested things by pouring some water directly into the sunroof drain hole. All the water still ended up in the cabine floor. So i pulled a long hard thick wire from the drain hole to the gommet, pulled it back and forth a couple of times, then used compressed air to blow the channel out and now the water test was ok. All the water flows out of the gommet.
Just to be sure, tomorrow i will pull off the right pillar cover but i expect no further problems.
Thanks for all the replies.
