In the struggle with trying to get my e420 to start I bought a Autel Mx808 scanner and finally was able to read codes on my 97 e420.
p1570 states "Start enable of DAS (Diagnostic Tool/FBS) has not been transmitted.
I can erase the code but then instantly comes back.
any ideas of what is causing this
I have no flashing lights in the mirror
car cranks and stables as it wants to start
I've checked with 38pin and receive no faults there except steering sensor
and the 16pin in car gave me the P1570
any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure that you scanned all modules through the 38 pin connector ? You should have some codes from the RCL module as this is translated to P1570 at the ECU. The codes from the RCL are in the format "B1XXX". Also if there a code from the OBD2 port (P1570), you should also have the same code from the ECU when you do a complete scan from the 38 pin connector, as the OBD2 signal link and the 38 pin signal link for the ECU are the same.

When / how did the problem start, or did you buy the car like this ?

Does the scanner actually scan the RCL and says "no codes" or does it say it is not "reachable" and skips the module ?

I would specifically select the RCL module in the module list from the 38 pin port, and scan it. It is possible that the RCL module has no power, and does not respond to scan requests. Lack of mirror LED activity seems to indicate this.

Does the remote / IR fob lock / unlock the doors ? Do you see the red / green LED activity when the doors are locked / unlocked ?

So with the RCL I go to read codes and some modules work like steering and or throttle other times it says please ensure car is on or check connection. When I unlock the car the green light flashes, when I lock the car only the red light flashes. Starting the car no other lights flash or anything. On the truck next to the key hole I see the green light flash when I unlock and red when locking. but the drivers door has that same IR rectangle but no lights at all come on.

If the red/ green lights turn on / off when you lock / unlock the car, then the RCL is powered. There is a module called IR DAS, and this communicates with the ECU to authenticate the code in the fob chip and the code in the ECU. It appears that the IRDAS module is not communicating with the ECU over the CAN bus. You can access the live data on the IR DAS module and check the status of start enable. and whether the key is authorized. There seems to be an authorization issue, and that is why the ECU is not firing the fuel injectors.

Run to the dealer with the title and order a valet or master key. Just a key with a chip inside, so no need to tow the car to the dealership.... If the parts guy makes noise about having the car present at the dealership, move on to another parts guy or get manager.

Then put new key and see if it starts car.

Also check power on fuse 14 under the hood at the driver's side with key in position 2 on both sides of the fuse to ensure the fuse is not blown, and the IRDAS module is powered when the ignition is ON.

If there is no power to the IRDAS module, the scanner will not be able to read the codes, and the red / green LEDs on the mirror will not flash with start attempt.

My fob has the chip in it but a small part on the top thin part of the chip is missing could that be the issue ?
Who knows ? take a picture and post.

The thing is, you have the Autel scanner with the 38 pin adapter. You should be able to see the live data in the IRDAS module to check if the transponder (chip) response is received and whether it is valid or not. That assumes the IRDAS module is powered, running, and reachable by the scanner.

This is what the chip looks like View attachment 2740035
Does not look very promising. It may be the reason, or one of the reasons why the car is not starting.

You should get a new key, as suggested above from a dealership. There is some chance that the key may not work if the IRDAS and ECU are not original (had been replaced before).

I have no options on my Autel MK808 that say IR/DAS on it just the pictures above. Im assuming when it says 704 start enabled as no that means the chip is not being read to start the car ? Also I did call the dealers 2 weeks ago and I was told the car had to be towed so they could program, I really don't like that dealership but its the closest too me to tow the car if necessary. If I go up there with the title what are the chances of me getting a key ?

That is their default answer to anything when they hear the word "key".

You have to go to the part department and ask for valet or master key. There is no electronics in it. There is no programming involved. It is all plug and play.

Part numbers listed, #116 or #137.

The part number in the middle that says "LESS TRANSPONDER" is not what you want. Either the top one or the bottom one.

You may need to have a manager override the parts guy...key blade does NOT require the car to be present. Just provide proof of ownership.

Now, that is true for my local dealership. YMMV, but don't take their bullshit. 99.98% of all requests for keys are all for electronic key fobs that require the car to be present at the dealership, so the parts guy is used to those and will not even bother to look it up.

That was through the 38pin is how I got access to the module, all the other modules are for ESP or other things that have nothing todo with the driver auth system I have sat there and went through every single one and they all pass and check out only one that gives me problems is the drive auth one and that's the one that gives me code P1570.

Autel provides a way to print out the results to a pdf file. Or you can take a picture of the final screen. None of the modules will explicitly say "driver authorization". P1570 comes from the ECU, because the ECU is expecting the IRDAS to respond to the authorization request, and does not get any response. This may be due to the key, or due to IRDAS not powered or bad.

Also order the transponder coil if you can, it is another common source of failure.

However, I don't recall how much it was....knowing MB, it is $200. I've never tried it, but you could order a transponder coil for BMW E46 or BMW E53, it's the same exact part and its about $40 or so.

I believe even the connectors are identical. Wire length, on other hand, not sure.
