I'm officially the owner of a 2005 S55 AMG and I'm pretty excited as I've been looking for one for 6-8 months now and dreaming about a W220 for much longer.
I thought I did the purchase the right way. After finding a low mileage example that looked to be very well maintained and no obvious issues, I had the owner take it to Mercedes Benz of Sacramento for an inspection. They told me it needed a few little things like valve cover gaskets, brake pads, etc. Nothing major and not a single mention about the suspension or pump.
I drove it from Sacramento back home, about 200 miles and to work a couple of days. Last night I started going over everything myself. Oil looks pretty fresh (will change soon anyway), ABC/PS Fluid looks pretty clean (was going to flush anyway) and overall happy.
Then I look at the ABC pump pulley while the car is running and my stomach dropped. So for piece of mind, is it pretty safe to say that this pump needs to be replaced ASAP? The only other thing I can think of is removing the pulley and making sure the mating surfaces are clean and reinstalling that.
The pulley is moving all over the place, leading me to believe the bearings on the inside are toast. The car drives great and there are no warning messages, but I think it's pretty safe to assume this will only become a bigger problem if not addressed? The car is parked and I don't plan to drive it until I replace the pump and do the whole laundry list of maintenance. Here's that list, please feel free to remind me of anything I missed.
Engine Oil/Filter
ABC Pump, Pentosin, 2 filters (1 in reservoir, where's the other one)
Transmission fluid, filter, (need to buy dipstick)
Supercharger fluid
I've already learned a ton from this site and I look forward to contributing once I get the basics taken care of and start piling on the mileage. Eventually I'll be doing a nice stereo setup and more power as well.
Since the car only has about 300 miles on it since the dealer performed the inspection and the pump looks atrocious now, do you think there's any chance of getting something out of the dealer for totally missing this? I firmly believe there's no way it went from being perfect when inspected to the mess it is now in such a short time.
