Can someone tell me what the intervals are for major service on an ML320? I just bought one with 50K miles and want to know when to service it. Does the vehicle use a timing belt or chain?

I am asking these dumb questions because I don't have an owner's manual.

Thanks for allowing my ignorance.

/Patrick

I believe the MLs don't use a timing belt but instead, a timing chain that lasts the lifetime of the car.

However, there is a PolyV belt that drives the crankshaft, a/c, pump, alt, steering, etc. The only way you can tell it needs replacing is a visual inspection for cracks and wear.

There is only service for A or B for the ML. Your dashboard will indicate mileage left until you need either service. (press dashboard button twice, I think)

Service A is oil change and checks.
Service B is oil change and more checks, replace dust filter, replace wiper inserts.

Frankly, I think these services are a waste of money. They are just a bunch of VISUAL inspections that anyone with a little bit of auto knowledge can do. But I guess you need to keep it up for warranty reasons.

You should also replace brake fluid every 2 years, replace coolant every 3, air/fuel filter every 4.

Did I miss anything? Hope this helps.
Silver: Call Mercedes

Silver:
I just bought an MB with 49k and needed the manuals just like you. If you have under 50k make sure you take it in for any warranty work. You can call Mercedes 800 number and order your service and owners manuals for under $15.00. Mine were shipped to me in less than 2 days.

Your FSS will tell you when a service is due. I suggest following that schedule. There is no timing belt. It is a chain that will last the life of the vehicle. Has the previous owner provided any info on what has been done to date. If purchased from an MB dealer they should be able to provide you this info

MB won't advise of repair work

Sosh:
MB can not legally tell what repair work the prior owner has had completed. They will only run the vin and tell what warranty work has been done. If you make friends with the service rep, he might do it for you. One of the guys gave me a free CD changer once, so anything is possible.
