My wife and I are currently looking to buy a 2009 ML 350. I am a golfer and one of my concerns is fitting the clubs in the back. Will a set of golf clubs fit horizontally in the back? Do most of you feel there is enough room behide the back seat for a weekend trip?

Is there anything I should be looking for? Problems? Must have options or not have? The few that I am interested in have less then 8000 miles.

Should have no problems with clubs. Yes there is plenty of room for a weekend's stuff and lots more! As far as options, thats kind of personal. I like airmatic, leather interior, Nav, Bluetooth (became std in 09) HK sound system, Am on my 4th ML, 98 ML320, 02 ML500, 06 ML500, and now a 2010 ML550. 06 and 10 ML's have not had one single issue.

Can't answer the golf club bag question, if they fit horizontal or diagonal, as I don't play.

About weekend trips. The trunk has quite some capacity. With the cover on, you can fit two good size suitcases and a couple small bags. Cover open you can put 3 or 4 large bags on their side and some small stuff ... or put several medium ones upright.

I don't see a luggage problem for a weekend, mid-week or any trip, really. I know for a weekend with 3 people with 3 carry-on to medium suitcases, a cooler and some laptop bags, things fit fine.

Of course if the golf clubs travel along for the weekend ... some luggage would have to go ;) Plenty of room too for some suitcases on the back seat. We've done it to have easy access and avoid burying luggage under other stuff in the trunk.

yes space is plenty! And if you really want, you can of course fold the rear seats and get even more space. I fit a whole stroller and a full hockey bag in the back trunk area alone and have still space left!

As far as options go, its preference really. 09 models onward have a lot of things included as mentioned above, heated seats, bluetooth, 6 cd changer etc. Some things I am missing is seat memory since I often share the drive with my wife so we end up readjusting the seat quite often. She also has hard time parking in the car (just because she is afraid to scratch it) and wants a rear view camera. I park in it no problem though.

The other thing to watch out for is in diesels there is no spare, so they use runflats and that has issues of its own and if you consider getting a car with aluminum running boards, talk to the dealer, some say a lot of the customers regret getting them, they only make things harder in life.

I must also add that ML is great in size. Its not too small like infiniti fx while of the same class is much smaller inside, and not too big I find it really easy to drive and just love it.

When we go to the Carolina's, I fold the back seats down, then put the luggage from the passenger side all the way back and I try to keep it just on one side. Behind the driver seat I put a sleeping bag down with some blankets and a couple pillows. That way we can swtich off and go to the back and actually lay in a fully prone position and let the MB ride you to sleep. I think it's about the best sleep I've gotten in years! Anyway, when my wife goes back there, she likes to read her novels, so the light she uses to read doesn't bother me when I drive also. And when I go back there I can play video games and watch movies without bothering her. So the ML is really the perfect size for us. And as for golf clubs, that was my first requirement. I brought my bag with me, and I with the saleman standing there, I pushed the auto hatch button, beep, beep, beep it opened. I hiked my bag in, put my shoe bag inside, hit the hatch button again, beep, beep, beep, it closed. Then we went for a test drive. When we got back I went inside, we did the paper work after I beat them down as far as I could, and drove home my new golf club carrier. LOL!!!

I have a 2011 ML350. Golf clubs fit in the rear compartment with the seats up. However, the width can be a problem for a man's driver. Lady's clubs fit fine. As you can tell by looking at the rear compartment there is a slope to the sides with the bottom more narrow. For my bag I put the bottom of the carry bag in first then put the top in with the driver side of the bag up. That way the clubs fit. Driver down does not work.

I carry, my grandson's small carry bag, my wife's bag, my bag, and 2 folding soccer seats with no problem. I can also add a couple soft bags back there too. The space is roomy, but not anything to write home to mother about. I always wish there was more room or that the space was just a couple of inches wider. Having said that, it would not stop me from buying the car again.
