A couple of suggestions:
1- You skipped the part about how to take the old filter off the stem, I'm pretty sure you had a mess with oil dripping everywhere, the better practice is to loosen the filter housing and let it sit for the duration of the oil change, all the drippings will go back to the engine and you can lift the filter assembly without a single drop. Therefore reverse the order of the oil change.
2- You can save yourself an hour or two of work by extracting the oil from the dip stick hole. This is the standard Mercedes practice, you will get more oil out and you can do your oil change wearing a tuxedo. Buy yourself an extractor, Noodles found one for less than $100, do a search, if you can't find it, PM me and I'll send you a link.
But I do applaud you for taking the time and sharing your experience with us, we have a lot of new members and they can surely learn from the video and the discussion.

Not sure what dealer you took it to, but its standard operating procedure for MB dealers in the US to drain from the top, practice says that you get more oil out of the top than the drain plug method
