Hello guys,

As crazy 24 Hours of Le Mans enthusiasts we've planned during COVID period to re-create a Sauber C9 1987.

Image

This car doesn't exist anymore in this configuration as it was transformed in several other types to continu its racing life.
Sure it is not the most remarkable C9 in minds as it abandoned quickly but its the mother of the C9 history with, for us, the most beautiful livery.

This build thread story starts now and i hope you'll enjoy the construction as we do.

As previously mentioned, everything started in 2020 during the COVID period.
When you've got time you can dream, search on internet, search on internet, search on internet ... (of course you need inspiration 😁... )

Then finally phone your brother and decide together to re-create a C9 KOUROS 😀.
After several hours to do diagrams and 3D drawings we chose to re-create to the maximum we could the car as it was in 1987.

I can call this period, keybordracer time ...
But everything changed after this ...

Bodywork is a huge job !
We had to make our own mold for the side panels.

And Final piece comes …

it’s time to have a first look to decide if we continu or have to rework some elements.

Looks good to me 😏
During this time and after the time spent on the body we’ve had look at the reality. Do the chassis would be too long ! so we had to choose to use a donor car with an aluminium chassis, not so far from the true Sauber …
This is what we’ve done.

lets give it a second life !

So lets go to dismantle the donor,

Geometry is OK, what is the most important, but some cleaning and repair sessions are in front of us :cautious:

In the meantime, studies of the chassis modifications are going ahead ...

And of course as it's not really enough we also make the bodywork progress o_O
But what a pleasure to see the C9 form appear progressively

Thank you
kouros is the name of a perfume from Yves Saint Laurent that was the main sponsor of the car

but initialy, Kouros is an old greek word that means « young man »
It's also a Persian first name, going back to the younger brother of Persian King Cyrus (600-530 BC), perhaps some of Alexander the great's army likead and adapted the name when they came through? Probably more info than you had been looking for.
Kudos to your project.

Thank you. Yes correct Catia is a fantastic tool to do this and avoid mistakes before machining parts.
3D printing to validate is also a very helpful solution. Here is a great example.

Also a good friend to define the rotation point of the doors…

At the moment we’re working on the front frame of the car.
