Hi,
I always love the R129, but never had the chance to own one (family reasons), Now when I have the extra money and space I am ready to have one.
I had a test drive with a 93 sl300 and I felt like its to small for me. The seat doesnt move back, I couldnt find a good driving position.

Will a R129 give as much comfort as a bmw 740 (e38)
Is their a way to make more space?
Does anybody drive a SL being as tall as I am?

which sl would you recomend 300, 320, 500, 600 ?? which year of production what color I have about $16000.

Is it possible to change the drivers seat with the passanger seat so the seat belt box will not block the way back for the seat?

Thanks For your reply

Hi John

I don't think that there is much you can do to modify the seating, I am 6ft 2" and have no problem but as my wife tells me 3" can make a lot of difference. The only way is to try them out and it might be that it is just not for you, this will be a pity because they are great car to own and drive.

I am 6ft with long legs and would appreciate more leg room on some occasions.
Some people taller than me with shorter legs felt comfortable.
For 6ft 5 there is no question and will not be as comfortable as 740.
Unfortunately, you may want to skip it.

new SLK has far more leg room.

John,

I am 6' 7', 250 pounds and traded my 745LI for an 07 SL550. There is adequate leg room, head room, and hip room, but you are fixed in one seating position. In the 745, there was plenty of hip room to move around which you don't have in the SL. the seats in the SL are hard as a rock compared to the 745 but these two cars are not meant to be comparable. The main inconvenience is that you are practally sitting on the pavement so you have a long way to go down to your seat. I have the SL for a local/fun car and drive a Toyota Sequoia the rest of the time. At my size, I would not want to take long trips in the SL, but it sure makes the short ones a lot more fun.

My brother is only 6'1" and his only complaint is that when seat fully back, he would like it back a tad more. I would say at your height you need to pass on a 500SL (this applies to 1994, I would not know if they changed after that)

6'6" 280 and fit fine, just tricky getting in and out. I have a method so I don't crush the seat bolsters. I fit fine for nights out cruising and short trips, but I also wouldn't want to go for a long haul. You also have to make sure that the seat height is all the way down and seat is all the way back. You can squeeze a little more out if you reduce the incline on the back and ride a little more upright.

thanks for your useful answers guys,

I had a chance to try out a sl 320 '99. and still had some problems with finding a good position. I also check out a w230 and found less space!!
I love the car !! not the space it provides!!

did any of you tried any modificatoins, change the seats from a w230?, or anything?
Thanks
