Hi all! so my 1991 500SL now has 38K miles, drove it last week and noticed fuel leaking on the ground under pumps location, still need to inspect under there once I remove cover, my 91 W124 did the same thing and turned out to be leaking fuel pump, the weak link on these types of pumps is the plastic at electrical terminals , they develop cracks and leak.
Mine only leaks while running, not a whole bunch of fuel but leaks on the ground.
I'm going to take the whole assembly out to replace parts, but searching for a good test for accumulator, car starts fine once warmed so no hard warm start issues,
From what I've read about the accumulator .
It retains fuel pressure in the system to aid hot starting (reduces fuel vaporisation in the fuel lines), it doesn't influence cold starts as the pressure does stay that long. It also smooths the pulses of the fuel pump (like a damper).
I do have a cold start issue last 8 years, replaced all ignition parts and still has cold start issue, I know we have a cold start injector but it only activates under cold weather conditions, I'm thinking the leaky pump may be the issue.
So what's a easy test for accumulator?
Thanks!
