High rev and RPM idle after start

hey guys, tell me what you think about this.

about 5 starts ago, I noticed that the engine jumps up to 2K, then idles around 1100-1200. after shifting to drive, the car works as expected and idles at stops around 600-700. No other abnormalities.

1. These are cold and hot starts
2. Made it through half the tank of gas I have in there now.
3. No other changes or mechanic visits before behavior started
4. Sat for 1 minute to see if it owuld go down to normal, but seems to stay high until shifting out

Just went out to collect codes (There are none from CAN and through A/C unit) and started it again just to check...and now it's back to normal!

And I wasn't starting before with my boot on the pedal either :p Any odeas? Or why it would revert back to normal?

The

check valve in the secondary air injection may have stuck open for a few cycles and that raises the idle to inject more O2 to bring the cats to temp.If it went back to normal, keep your fingers crossed it was only a gremlin. If it gets worse you will eventually get a code and then you can fix it.

Well...much to my dismay...after I wrote that after luch that day, the "problem" was back when I left work that evening and has been back since.

"check valve in the secondary air injection may have stuck open for a few cycles"

is it OK to keep it running until I get a code or is there anything I can do now? I feel like I have seen a few threads about check valves lately...hopefully this one is easy to get to?

Thought I'd jump on this board, curious to see if you got this matter resolved? I noticed I am beginning to have a rough idle and park with my 96 E320. During drive it stays about 6-800 rpm, during park or neutral it goes up 2-2500. I noticed if I push the pedal higher, it goes up then drops down to 1000rpm. I have a feeling maybe my pedal is sticking (if that makes any sense?), should I lubricate it? What would be best to use

Any ideas????

One thing that will cause the initial high idle is a leaky vacuum advance diaphram or the hose attached to it... more commonly it is the leaky hose that needs to be replaced.

To check for a sticky accereration cable, disconnect the cable from the throttle lever... turn on the engine and see if the idle is normal now.

While the cable is disconnected, have someone depress the gas pedal while holding the end of the cable... if it is sticky, you will notice it. Fix it by spraying WD40 down the cable shaft, and work it until it moves freely.

Good luck .. :)
