(2000 S500 150k Miles)
Hello all, again. I have been trying to diagnose an rpm-based vibration and it seems to be the crank pulley/harmonic balancer. When under 2000-3000 rpm load the car vibrates and then smoothens out, even in park. I originally thought it was a transmission mount, but when checking under the car with a listening tool, the transmission was not vibrating very much if at all. When inspecting the rubber on the harmonic balancer, while there was no missing chunks of rubber, it is fairly cracked, and does move a little more than it should when in higher RPMs. So it seems I will have to tackle this thing and get it done, and HOPEFULLY, the vibrations will be no more.
So, my basic concerns. (Keep in mind, I'm not planning on owning this car for much longer, I just want get it fixed and sell it)
-Will this FCP Euro Corteco Pulley be a good replacement? Mercedes Engine Crankshaft Pulley - Corteco 1120351400 I would prefer not spending 100+ for this part.
The part number on the listing is 1120351400, but MB Medic says its supposed to be 1120350800 for the S500. Whats up with that? I'm assuming it's the same part and it would fit anyways. Any clarification?
- I know that the crank pulley uses a stretch bolt, is this part number 0069907004 correct as well? I plan on purchasing the one from FCP Euro as it seems to be the cheapest online. Mercedes Crankshaft Bolt - Genuine Mercedes 0069907004
-As for the holding tool, I'm planning on ordering Mercedes Benz M112 M113 M137 Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer Puller Holder | eBay , which seems to be the cheapest option, while still holding good reviews as well.
- Although I do not plan to keep the car, just because the part is literally right there, I'll replace the front crankshaft seal. What is the correct part number for that seal? I'll likely order that from FCP just to save on shipping lol.
Based off what I have read on these forums, such as on DIY Harmonic Balancer Guide you are NOT supposed to use an impact wrench, so I plan on buying or loaning some torque wrench from Oreilly's or Autozone and using my harbour freight jack pipe as a cheater bar. (147 lb ft / 200 nm and 90 degrees)
Also, I've heard that on 220s you do not need to remove the shroud, but I guess I'll see how that works when I get there lol.
Any other general words of advice? I have seen some people recommend torching the bolt. I used these two YouTube videos for visual reference.
I apologize for making a long post about this but the best post I have found was in 2013 and parts/tools availability/prices has shuffled around a little so I just want to clarify. It was a bit of a dig to find some info because a lot of the info online was about the recall a decade and a half ago.
(I plan on finishing up my open ended threads soon, this car keeps me very busy lol)
Thank you.
