In an attempt to better understand my "new" W220 S500L I tried to find the meaning of the special equipment codes as supplied on the Vehicle Data Card. I could not log on to the various web sites as suggested by some posters, so I compiled a list of all the codes that I could discover. There are over 700 codes and meanings listed in the attached.
If you can help with the meanings or suggest any further codes with their description I will edit and update the attached. That way it should evolve into a comprehensive list in the one document and become a useful resource.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Thank you, ricebubbles - I know that represents a lot of work.

Common questions arise regarding whether a car has certain equipment (especially regarding handsfree equipment and headlights). There are conflicts in specific language between the data available on the EPC/WIS and the Russian VIN decode site (which seems to be no longer functional). The codes I could determine in answer to the recent common questions, based in part on my '05 S-Class, are:

Front seat, steering column and mirror memory - 275

TPMS - 475

Without one of the following codes, one likely has halogen headlamps:
Xenon Headlamps with washer - 612
Xenon headlamps, asymmetrical, LH traffic - 613
Bi-Xenon headlights for right-hand traffic - 614; for left hand traffic, 616
Headlight washer system - 600 (separately listed for cars with Bi-Xenon headlamps)

COMAND APS with Navigation (USA) - 530
Bose audio system - 810
Alpine CDC in trunk - 819
Voice Control - 813

The following are telephone codes:
Cell phone pre-install with Tele-Aid, USA - 359 (this is the pre-wiring code, indicating that harnesses are present with no PSE or control module, or other electronics).
The phone codes range from 272-274, 313-329, 347-350, 359, and 853-855; we could use some help identifying these in plain language. Some refer to support electronics, and some to cell phones or wired phones themselves. In particular, it would be helpful to indicate:
1) Codes for pre-wiring only, where support electronics are still necessary. 359 is US with Tele-Aid and harness, but different countries will have different codes.
2) Codes showing prewiring and support equipment installation, requiring only a cradle or Bluetooth dongle (puck) to complete the system (such as might apply to an '04 S-Class).
3) Codes showing a handsfree phone system requiring only addition of a phone.
4) Complete systems, including a phone.

You didn't search post 2, above. To elaborate, it means the car has a Tele-Aid module and the wiring harness necessary for installation of a "completer kit" for a hands-free phone. For MY '05, that consists of an MHI control module, an MHI contact plate, and the wiring necessary to connect the contact plate to the console. Unless the car also has a code designating "hands-free phone" or something similar then the installation is not complete. In addition, MY '05 and '06 that use the MHI phone system also require installation of a voice control module.

In '00 through '03 models the completer kit may contain brackets, a PSE module, a cradle, and wiring to install the cradle in the phone compartment; however, the How-To Guide for Cell Phones sticky (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/aud.../forums/audio-telematics-forum/1313173-how-guide-cell-phones-upgrades-plug.html) has some better ways to do the installations. For example, completer kits (if you can find one; they have been discontinued, but individual parts can be found) also contain linear compensators and antenna switches, which are not necessary for a Bluetooth installation; and for the '00-'03 models the "cradle eliminator cable" and V60 puck is a better way to go than finding a cradle, installing it, and then placing a V60 puck in the cradle.

Last, all North American MY '04 W220s have a CP-211 communications platform that combines the PSE and the Tele-Aid electronics into one box; I don't know or have the code for that - but it matters not, because all of them have it. Further, it is the easiest of all the W220s to add Bluetooth to - one needs only to install the "puck with tail" in the phone compartment. Seriously, that's it.

Part numbers for most of what you need are in the How-To Guide.
