I took my 2008 GL450 in for an alignment and mechanic said that one of the left upper control arms bushings had failed. Recommended replacing both upper control arms at a cost of $1340 including alignment. Can anyone give me the procedure for removing the upper control arm? It doesn't look hard but I can't tell if the air strut is in the way of extracting the bolts. Thanks in advance.

Well, you'll probably save more than $60 doing it yourself ... so why not spend $60 for a 24 hour subscription to Mercedes WIS and find all the instructions you need? Get lots of computer paper and you could maybe even make yourself a pretty comprehensive service manual. See startekinfo.com

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping someone on the forum knew how to do this but I guess not. It looks like you just remove wheel, remove plastic wheel well cover, separate upper ball joint from control arm and remove two bolts attaching upper control arm. I can't tell if the bolts will clear the air strut enough to come out or not without removing the air strut. I was hoping to find out if I was missing something.
