Last Sunday, I attended the German Car Festival, sponsored by Yokohama. It involved the BMW club of BC, the Porsche club, as well as the MB club. Needless to say, there were quite a lot of vehicles (70 in all, I believe).<br> <br> I did invite a few local ML owners to this event, but unfortunately no one managed to attend. Nonetheless, I wasn't the only ML there.<br> <br> I met up with a couple of BMW M5 owners are the Boundary Rd. MB Canada dealer, and then headed off to the meeting place, which was the North Shore Automall.<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/morning_meet.jpg'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/Pic_front1.jpg'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0004_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> The event started off with a drivers' meeting, followed by a parade around North Vancouver, which finally ended at the Waterfront park with a show and shine.<br> <br> Here was the view from my rearview mirror. Notice how I can see exactly how close the car behind me is to my rear bumper. This comes in very handy sometimes!<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0006_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> I ended up parking on a slope next to a CL500. It was a good thing that the ML has traction control, as it came in handy when climbing up the awkwardly banked slope. A few people were worried that I would tip over onto the Porsche below, but I guess they didn't know that the ML has the ability to handle 45 degree banked slopes laterally! The 4ETS was handy in that it braked the wheels that were loosing traction on the slippery grass, and allowed the wheels with traction do do the work. In an SUV without traction control, the wheelspin would've torn up the grass, damaging the landscape. However, there was no such erosion with the ML, because of the traction control system.<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0045_img.jpg'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0007_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0046_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> As mentioned before, I wasn't the only ML there. A police ML320 was present at the event as well! Now that was a real treat, to be able to see it up close and to even be able to chat with the officer.<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0008_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0009_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0011_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> There were quite a few rare vehicles at the show, including this Porsche built MB 500E. This is not your normal W124 E-class! Have a look at the bulging front fenders:<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0011_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0015_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> Another rarity was this fully restored spectacular 1914 Mercedes. Yes, it has a hand crank, and the owner actually drove it to the park. The presence of such a vehicle really displayed the lineage of the Mercedes-Benz brand name. Something that few manufacturers will be able to match. You won't see a vintage Lexus anytime soon, for example.<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0029_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0030_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0031_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0033_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> A couple of other nice MBzs in attendance:<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0037_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0038_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> Before the event concluded, I knew that I had to take a few shots of my ML with the Vancouver city line in the background, as I knew that I probably wouldn't get the opportunity to do this anytime soon.<br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0050_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0053_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0054_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0049_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> <img src='http://www.sfu.ca/~aling/mbnz/germancarf/100-0055_IMG.JPG'><br> <br> If you would like to see a panoramic shot of the event, click on the link below:
