I just bought a 6 year old slk 200 auto tip black with 80k from a small dealer..
I have an engine management light.
The mechanic at the dealer tested it and said 2 faults were showing. 1) air mass flow 2) camshaft sensor
He thought it would be air mass so he replaced it today.

It still is showing camshaft fault, he suggested he needed it for 2 days as he thinks the timing advance is too tight on it, so he thinks he needsto strip it then adjusts it rebuild and test and keep doing this until fault is cured. Does anyone please know if this makes any sense???

What are the code numbers?
His solution sounds like a lot of labour hours and hence cost. The sensor is $200 or so plus less than an hour fitting (2 bolts on the side of the engine).
If the sensor is faulty the ECU will not advance the camshaft, so changing the advance manually will just result in a mis-timed engine. These sensors do fail occasionally. The code for the faulty camshaft position sensor is P0341 and the symptom is the supercharger doesn't operate.

thank you

I dont know the code from the garage and the car drives fine.
I had a friend put it on his scope before anyone checked it as
The garage is fixing it is under warranty but they're not Merc guys
my friends smart box read out p2014 y49 adjustable camshaft timing solenoid mechanical fault.
and p2036 injection malfunction , air flow too low.
Since then it has had a mass air flow fitted and the lights were cancelled the guy said it wasnt cured and needed stripped (as above). It when for about 10 miles without coming back on and then i got a bit of an emmisions smell as i started it and the light was on again.
Its going back to these mechanics next week for the strip.
