Hi all

I recently bought a eaton that came off a mercedes of some sort but i dont know whether its a M62 or M45, some say the M62 has a clutch and some say it doesnt, some say its pulley end is long and some say it isnt. so im completely confused, all i know is the part number is A 271 090 20 80 and further the sticker only says EATON 307961.

Can anyone help out?

Andre, Mercedes did not put a blower into any R171 models???????? All engines are N/A!

The easy way to tell is the M62 has the much larger blower pulley. The M45 has the same size rotors but not as long as the M62 rotors. Notice the M45 has the long intake and the M62 has the intake that goes right into the rotors like most roots blowers. Hope the photos help!

Mmmmmmm mine doesnt look anything like those, mercedes say the part number indicates its for slk230, clk230, c200 and i cant remember what else but that obviously still doesnt tell me if its a M45 or M62, *sigh* cant they just put a decent name on these things.....

Here's some pics of mine......

Andre,

I guess I stand corrected but that photo is of a blower from a C230 or I guess from what I have gathered they used it on the newer SLk's. What a mess. That is the one they were using on the 1.8L C230 and you are telling me they now use it on the SLK 200. I was not awasre the 171 had a SLK200. I guess the Euros need a little engine to compnesate for thier little...... anyway. Andre you sure about that. How is the BMW coming along. How much did your Supersprint exhaust cost you. Dam it was so impressive. I do not care what anyone here says. You keep posting us on the BMW project my good friend. How is the SLk running. Any problems with the M62 and the rotors. My M45 is out for part coating and the blower pulley is going to be made this weekend so I hope to have it in my hand in 2 weeks!

I have a guy over here telling me its a m62 haha oh man what confusion. i think i might just aswell explain why im so serious about finding out. I have a BMW Z3 2.8 standing around here and i got the supercharger for very cheap, now i want to custom fit it on the Z3 but im not sure if the m45 could give me the desired performance im looking for or not because it might be too small for the 2.8 engine? im looking at boosting between 0.5 and 0.7 bar to get round about 290hp on the flywheel

Your Eaton is a M45. They're good for engines up to 3.0L displacement, and given the gentle boost you're trying to apply, this one should be just fine.
Only the pre-FL M111 had M62s, and forged (!) pistons to match bigger hp appetites.

Whoever told you you had a M62 had no clue what they are talking about. The M62 and the M45 had the same exact casing except the M62 rotors are around 6" long while the M45 rotors are around 4 1/2" long!

Tom, how are ya M8. Amazing your SLK is still putting around with that big old crank pulley. Have you been keeping tabs on my M45 project?????

Hi Steve,

I am reading all your posts! I hope your M45 project will get you reliably above the 1 bar hurdle - that would be truly amazing for a Roots. My blower has still a few miles left of life but when that day comes (probably starting with a worn clutch) I'll think of a more drastic overhaul. Pity that Andre's project somehow disappeared.

Cheers
Tom

By the way what HP increase should i expect with say 0.5 bar boost, the ol bmw has 192hp stock. and also before anyone wants to :rocketwhore: me, my driving car is a 2007 Mercedes SLK200 and its perfect in every way, the bmw is just my little lab rat haha
