Seat all the way to the rear: 7.5 in. from seatback to rear wall. A chihuahua ... maybe.

Seat all the way to the front: 26 in. from seatback to rear wall. But as for the dog's comfort ... I wouldn't put my dog (a Sheltie) back there. Plus, the seatback is tilted forward ... pretty dorky-looking way to putz around.

I don't think these cars were made with dogs' comfort being a design factor. The older model SLs had a bit of a rear seat ... a dog could ride in one of those. But as for the R230 ... not so much.

Pity. They have become very affordable and suit me perfectly otherwise

 

R129 is probably your best bet... and even then, dog in convertible is not a great idea...

 

I have an R129 and my English Setter is very comfy in the back, I never have the top off when she is in the car and have a custom "seat belt/harness" that is anchored in the back...
