Designo option - What was included?

Folks,

I've seen this option mentioned but as I don't have any of the original literature, what did it include?

Were the two-tone seats available as a separate option or was that only part of the Designo group?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think two tone seats were a designo feature, they were just a different style which was a no charge option. Designo cars had different/special colors, I think these changed every year or two, and I think some had brown/burl wood instead of the dark wood. I have an 02 brochure, I will check it when I am back home.

As an owner of a Designo Espresso Edition I can tell you a few things:

Espresso Edition had the brown and black two-tone seats. Paint: Mocha Black Metallic

The Silver Edition had monotone Pebble Beige interior. Paint: Designo Silver "yellow silver" Metallic

The Graphite Edition had a monotone Graphite interior. Paint: Designo Graphite Metallic

All the interior and exterior colors were exclusive to the Designo Edition.

In addition to the exclusive colors, the dash, console, drivers airbag & door panels were covered in napa leather, as is standard on the S600. The wood trim inside was also exclusive to the Designo it was Maple, some later w220 Graphite were optioned with the darker gray wood (I think it was poplar, but not sure) The steering wheel and gear shift were wood & leather and finally, rear heated seats were included on S500''s (frnt heated seats std) (front & rear std on S600) and front and rear heated seats included on S430's.

If you look on ebay many claim to have a Designo, but most are not.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, I forgot to reply to this...

Per my 2002 brochure, there were two types of designo trim for the E55, which that year was either "espresso edition" (designo mocha black paint, charcoal and light brown interior, elm wood, wood and leather steering wheel) and "silver edition" (designo silver paint (like desert silver), charcoal interior, "natural" maple trim, wood and leather wheel).

Did the W210 designo cars have a leather dash like the W220? The brochure doesn't mention it. Many owners of period MB think the two tone leather is a designo feature, but as far as I know, it was not.

HG and E55Mocha,

Thanks as I was just curious. It would be interesting to see how many Designo's were made/imported to the States. But I'm sure that info is not available.

Heading up to Vancouver BC next weekend. Should be a beautiful drive.

Have a great weekend!
