Has anyone actually gotten 2 sets of clubs in the trunk or was this a creating selling on the dealer's part??

One set fits, but...

You have to take out the woods and angle them, and I even have to take the headcover off my driver!

But I can get the top down.

Two sets is a dream. Two children's sets maybe.

Realistically, Golf clubs go shotgun.

I'm glad that MB didn't choose to create one of those unsightly humps on the trunk lid like BMW did with their 5 and 7 series. From what I read, one of the driving forces for that hump was to accommodate two full sets of golf clubs. [;)]

I've done it before, but...

First, you can only use stand bags. Cart bags are too big.

Second, you have to take the driver and possibly fairway woods out. I placed them upright behind the passenger seat. Then you and a friend can both go golfing.

FYI, if you have Sirius, that extra box in the trunk sure gets in the way[:(!]

Just don't lay your golf shoes on top. My dealer rep (New Orleans) was telling me about one of his SL customers who brought his '03 in with these "reverse pings" in the trunk lid. The customer brought the car in twice like this and told the service guy "there must be something wrong with the steel." They fixed it for him (complementary)and finally told him not to put the cleats face up on top of the golf bags.

Same for the R170. Had to take the clubs out of the bag and lay them diagonally but one set does fit.

I just have them ride shotgun like you suggested....its a lot easier.

That's why I recommend the trunk lid protector that I've installed as described in this thread:
