I own a 2006 E350AWD sedan and for the past year I will be driving and the check engine light comes on and then the car starts losing power. I will have to pull over shut down car and wait 5 minutes then restart which solves the problem and the check engine light turns off and the car runs. Usually happens on longer drives of 2 or 3 hours but doesn't happen all of the time, I take it to my mechanic and because the check engine lite is not on he cannot get a code to see what has happened. Has anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

You can buy a code reader for $20 on Amazon, then read the codes when they occur.

BTW, codes do not remain stored indefinitely. Once the condition is corrected, the light will go off after a number of cycles and ultimately the codes will go away as well. The trick is to get in as soon as you can after it happens.

Hence the suggestion to get a code reader.

And if you still don't want to get one, if you're not in CA then just go by an autozone when it happens the next time and they will read them for free, no need to wait until you can get to the mechanic.

The only other thing you can do is start randomly replacing things that it might be, and that's not a good option. ;)

Good luck.

I've got a similar problem with my E500 4Matic 2005, loss of power, intermittent, especially after 1h-2h drive but not always, gaz pedal didn't respond (at idle and just when I need to accelerate) and then accept to accelerate after 2-3 sec, for now.
-> the error codes show O2 problem P0134 and P0135 and misfire P0300-0304, still waiting a link to buy a dvd or specific technical information.

Code P0106 is the MAP sensor. Usually just a small hose knocked off or cracked.

Code P0456 is an evaporative system problem. Seeing as it is a W211 my guess would be the seals on the fuel tank access ports, but a good smoke test should pinpoint it.

The code P0134 is No O2 sensor activity(Bank 1 Sensor 1) P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
Codes P0300-304 are misfire codes.
This should be fixed as the misfires cause early catalyst failure and can hurt the engine.
