I've recently brought a mercedes vito 112 CDI and the oddometer isn't working. Can I simply buy a second hand instrument cluster from the same model van and plug it into my van?

Is the mileage of the van stored else where and the insturment cluster just a display unit? Or is the actual mileage of the van lost forever?

Removing the cluster is easy. Pop the covers off the screws and undo then take the air vent out on the RHS and push it back. The only problem is that you need to code the cluster to the van which is a star diagnosis job at the MB stealership. It's to stop vans being clocked simply by replacing the cluster.

Hi Adamuk do you know if the unit hasn`t been coded what effect would it have? as i recently got into vito ownership and my digital display is resetting every time the ignition is turned off, the only thing that remains constant is the mileage and if i reset the trip meter it will work until the key is off then when it comes back on it always says 47.2 miles!! and the dash lights is always at the dimmest and clock resets to 00:00 and the service counter stays on -9400
sorry to rant on
