Cannot find Seat Massage Issue

Hello everyone,
I have been a member on this forum before but I lost my username and password so I had to make a new account thus the reason why I display as brand new. I have had good luck so far with my 2002 S430 even though it has had a very rocky past. I am trying to figure out what may be an issue with the seat massage feature. I have done a search through this forum and MBworld's forum and found quite a bit of information to review. I have checked all the tubes, hoses, and connectors the air runs through and they all are connected and look fine. I don't see any cracks, holes, or really anything that would suggest they are the problem. I have checked the pump in the trunk and it looked fine as well. I have done a reset by pulling the fuse and saw no change. I have replaced all the fuses in my car with brand new cooper bussman fuses a month or so ago so pulling fuses is in my blood now. One thing I did notice is that the controls for my seat massage is not the same as the one in my w220 manual. The manual shows a wheel with numbers on it while mine has no such thing. I am including a picture to show what mine looks like. If I push the pulse button the red LED light turns on but after about 10 seconds it turns off. I don't really see or feel anything happen when I push any of the buttons. I think there is something obvious that I am missing here. Any suggestions?

I checked the manual and did not find anything on dynamic seats. I found information on massaging seats and multi contour seats but nothing on dynamic. I took it to the dealership today and the service advisor said it definitely is not working however he can hear the relay clicking when he pushes the buttons. I think it is fuse 20 that is responsible for that function and pulling it out for 30 seconds should reset it. I am hoping it is not the pump and just a loose hose or coupler.

I removed the pump today and checked it and everything looks good and I found out the pump was manufactured in February of 2009 so it a replacement pump. I unfortunately mixed up the hoses while I put it back together so not all of the soft close doors work. I made a new thread dedicated to just finding out where the hoses go.

Thanks to Skylaw's help and the pdf Brian Rice posted, I was able to get my hoses back to the proper places. That leads back to finding the issue that is causing my dynamic seats to not work. I looked underneath the bench seat and saw the hoses that were running from the PSE pump. One of them has a red nipple end on it and does not go anywhere. It is in the picture below. I am guessing it is a check valve. I am not sure what to do from here since all of the hoses and couplers look fine underneath the seat and I cannot hear any hissing at all from anywhere. Any suggestions? The dealership's service advisor told me that the technicians would have to take the seats out and really dig into them to see what is going on. If the case is that the bladders are bad in both seats then I will just move on but if it is a simple hose or coupler then I will be willing to fix this problem.

The sun was hitting the camera lens at an angle so the pictures look a bit washed out. The grey foam box that is in the second picture is the PSE pump that I had taken apart two nights ago. Brian Rice's diagram on the PSE pump states that the grey hose that is on the bottom row all the way to the right supplies air to the seats.

I have dynamic seating so I am not sure if it uses a different pump or set up but I don't think it would. It is odd that the pump is not there. I have the switches in both the driver's seat and passenger's seat and if I depress the pulse button the red LED light illuminates for about ten seconds and then shuts off. The relay can be heard clicking too when I depress any of the other buttons. Is it possible that my pump was removed or is in a different location?

I checked that link again but it does not have 2002 listed for the S430 RWD sedan. It has 2002 listed for the S430 sedan but not the S430 RWD sedan. I have the S430 RWD. I don't see the difference though because I thought the only drivetrain options for the W220s were rear wheel drive or the all wheel drive 4matic. I have never heard or read about a front wheel drive W220 though that may not be what the diagram implied by stating S430 sedan.

Until I find out where the pump for the dynamic seats are I think I should take a look at the seat's bladder. I have read that the back panel of the seats can be removed by unscrewing the two screws underneath the seat that point upwards. I saw the screws and they are silver in color and are torx drive. They look like T20s. I cannot get my screwdriver on them though since the cushion cover is in the way. Does that have to be removed or is there an easier way?

Disregard my last post. I was simply not moving the seat into the right position to remove the back panel. I actually found that out on a post within this website. I am still in search of the dynamic seat pump though since it seem that the PSE pump is not the responsible pump for the dynamic seat functions.

One Possibility

Perhaps someone wanted to replace the seats and got a deal on a pair that just happened to have the Dynamic DRIVE SYSTEM. So seats have button but car is missing the infrastructure.

However, the car dosen't have the eco system so that would just allow electric movement and the only way to know is get the VMI with your VIN number form any Benz Dealer.

If your car had the option it would show up on that as it has everything it shipped from the factory with.

I took the back panel off the seat today and saw that one of the bladders has split open at the seam. From what I have read, the pump that is responsible for filling the bladder in the seat has automatically shut itself off for protection since it can never fill the bladder with a hole. That could explain why both seats don't work.
