Any recommendations for a good mechanic on the Westside (Culver City, Santa Monica, Venice, Palms, Marina del Rey, etc.)?

At the risk of being in the wrong place that was a scary video, thanks.
As for the 126 chassis, I was a foreman when it came out as well as the 107 and most everything following. I retired just under 2 years ago and was an instructor/ team leader at that time so my grasp of technical issues still outreaches most. I now own and operate a small hot rod shop and build my own cars from the ground up including everything from the frame and suspension to the complete drive train. I do have them painted however. I actually started a 1927 Ford turtle back today. Thanks again.

I take my car to German Motor Car Service in Santa Monica. They work on Mercedes cars only, classic Gullwings to newer ones like mine. They use the same diagnostic tools the dealers use ( Star Diagnostic Computer). Owners name is Herbert.

Herbert has done some work on my 88 560 SEC. I can definitely recommend him. Not necessarily the least expensive guy in town but you get what you pay for and I work on the west side so its convenient for me.

I have also heard good things about George at G+N Motors on Santa Monica Blvd in Westwood (but thankfully I haven't yet needed his services)

Los Angeles/Santa Monica

If you are looking for a mechanic in Los Angeles, Tony, the owner of Europa Motors in Santa Monica, is absolutely the best mechanic I have ever worked with. Even if you aren't on the west side, go to Tony. He is the nicest guy and will NOT rip you off. He has been working on MBs since 1979 and really knows his stuff. I lived on the east side and took my car to him for years--if I hadn't moved 1000 miles away, he would still have my business!

Dominik Wolmerath on E Broadway - 562-634-1977.

When I was looking to make a MB purchase in the area, Dominik was very reasonable in his pricing for a car inspection and flexible and willing to try to accomodate the short notice schedule of an out of state car buyer like me. He appeared to have quite a lot of knowledge and experience with MB's, indicating that his daughter owned (he maintained) the same kind of MB I was looking to have inspected. Unfortunately the seller backed out of the deal and I was not able to use this shop ultimately. However I would certainly give him a shot if I lived in the area.

I find it interesting that they have this part of the forum broken-up into various parts of Los Angeles but curiously there is no section for the entire center of L.A. proper including Hollywood/Downtown/Hancock Park/etc.??

Anyways, just want to put in a good word for Beverly Laurel Automotive and its owner, Shant Barseghian. They are factory trained, former dealership technicians and he has possibly the best reputation in all of Los Angeles. He is the guy that other shops call all day long for help and advice with Mercedes Benzes. Their prices are fair and he is as honest and decent as the day is long.

They have just moved back into Hollywood, (from the valley), and are on Wilcox and Santa Monica Blvd. near Honda of Hollywood.

Summary of Westside Mechanic responses . . .

Hey all,

Excited to say that I just bought a 2005 G500 and have enjoyed it very much - absolutely a trooper through this rainy spell we're having here in Santa Monica.

I wanted to have a few little quirks fixed -- as well as find a good mechanic for when the bigger things go wrong down the road.

I found a lot of back and forth on this thread -- with some mechanics getting both praise and criticism.

If anyone has any other recommendations, please do add to the conversation.

Currently, the summary of reviews, from most positive to most negative, is as follows:

- So far, only George @ G&N Motors/Westwood has more than one positive review with no criticism, with one I'm counting as 0.5 said "I hear good things" and one said "absolutely the best." 1.5 overall.

- Herman at German Motor Car Service of Santa Monica got two recommends, but one strong criticism saying that he is the "most expensive." 1.0 overall.

- Tony of Europa Motors in Santa Monica got one strong recommendation. 1.0 overall.

- Malibu Motors on 14th & Colorado got one recommendation - though kind of half-hearted. Judgment call, but I'm going to say 0.75 overall.

- Culver City Motors got one "I hear good things" (0.5) and one "I have concerns about their competence" (-1). I'm counting that as -0.5.

I know that using just one or two reviews is not a fair way to judge these guys, but I'm hoping to revitalize the conversation and get some more input on them in the weeks ahead.

Many thanks!

CA,Los Angeles/Westside Service by Wilhelm

A few years ago I had the pleasure of speaking to an extremely knowledgeable factory trained technician named Wilhelm. I had just purchased my '73 450SL @ the time & Wilhelm was quite familiar with the car & he shared his vast wealth of knowledge with me regarding the vehicle.

When we last spoke Wilhelm had just began to offer a mobile service for his clients. Unfortunately I have misplaced Wilhelm's contact information & I have been unable to locate him using Google. I was wondering if anybody had Wilhelm's contact information.

Body Work ??

nitinopp:::

I'm not sure what you have wrong with the body work on your car. I do know however, That I re-built a pre - 90's truck with my friends welding experience that had been smashed in the front and the back and also had a rear window knocked out. Which is now my Daily driver.

I tried to go to a local shop but they wanted to charge me more than the car was even worth !!

If your interested though P.M. me. I also know a shop that sells me aftermarket parts such as fenders bumpers etc. For really cheap. Which is where I got all my stuff from. We're always willing to help as long as your bring some beer and a good story. lol

Let me know.

I got sandwiched! Rear ended by a Jeep Cherokee and the woman thrust me forward into a dodge caravan so i had damage on both ends of my car. It was pretty bad. Insurance covered it and i went to Beverly Hills Mercedes Benz recommended repair shop called Beverly Coach Kraft. I mainly chose it because it had the word "coach" in it and sounded good haha. anyways they didn't know me and i had never heard of them. Their work was impeccable! I inspected my car for about 15 minutes just looking for a reason to stop liking my car because it was in an accident but I couldn't come up with anything. They only work on mercedes but I would literally pay extra for them to do body work on another brand of vehicle.

Hey seanthome,
Dr. Auto Tech in hermosa Beach is an amazing benz shop to go to.
The head mechanic/ owner knows old and new mercedes like the back of his hand haha.
Hes a really nice and honest guy and wont scam you. He even told me which shops were scams and to stay away from. I first got my regular service done and ive never gone anywhere else since then. The shop is super clean aswell and he really takes care of my car making sure to clean everything even a complimentary car wash. Its right on PCH too so it is convenient because I live in Torrance too. I definitely recommend this shop.
