I am thinking of replacing my current radio in my CLK 350 convertible. It does not have a COMAND system. I have looked into Dynavin and Seicane android systems and they seemed to offer a great product for a low price. I am skeptical of the quality of these Chinese systems, though. Do they really work? Are they worth it? I also have the Harman Kardon set up which I've read doesn't allow for the connection of the subwoofer that's under the rear seats. Is there a way to connect it with buying an extra adapter?

Also, are there any other companies that are making these sorts of upgraded components other than the two I've listed above?

Thanks

Most any radio you purchase today will come from some Asian country, even MB. There are few choices if you want to maintain the present "look" of your radio. If that is not your concern, then you have several choices that will fit in the dash with an adapter bezel. See photo of my CLK. It will depend on what features you want. Some will have an interface to allow your steering wheel controls to function with the radio. There is also an adapter for the Harmon Kardon speakers. There are also mount kits so that all of the wiring is plug and play. If you want GPS then you will have to mount the antenna somewhere. A backup camera would need to be installed if you go for that option.

You might find a solution at Crutchfield.com. I discovered this old DIY brand while replacing a stereo in my daughter's Civic. A couple of things struck me as positive:
1. pricing was reasonable and the selection was good
2. I goofed up a mounting bracket for a speaker and after trying to 'fix' it myself, I humble called them about it, and they sent me a new bracket for free. Oh, BTW the mounting hardware is included in the stereo price.
3. Bonus: they have a lot of video on their site to show mounting instructions.

Worth a try. I DID check and they claim to have a MB selection for my 2005 CLK320 (with Harmon Kardon)

Good luck!

I am looking to buy the system that doesn't require anything, but removing the old radio, putting the new one in, and plugging in the wires. If in order to make the Harman kardon speakers and subwoofer fully work I need an adapter (which also only requires plugging in) then that is a go. I don't want to overcomplicate this by going into the car's wiring and hooking up each speaker and making it work that way... So, are Seicane and Dynavin good choices? What other brands are there that make these systems?

Thanks.

personally I was looking at the seicane radios as well. I prefer it to the Dynavin because it has Google maps instead of some proprietary solution I have to update all the time, also it is like 200$ less. Then again I have found radios with a similar look on alibaba as well and they are 200$ less than the seicane so I'm not quite sure yet what to go for, but for me it's less Dynavin and more seicane'ish ;)

CLK Head unit upgrades

I have a 2007 CLK550 with the HK sound system. There appear to be a number of options to modernize the head unit, but I have yet to take the plunge. Dynavin has the N7-CLK. Dynavin is headquartered in Germany and specializes in aftermarket upgrades to MB as well as other German car units and claims seamless integration. I have written them with some questions about the fiberoptic loop in my CLK and whether I need a fiberoptic interface. From what I have read, I doubt I want get a new amp and rewire the speakers. Unlike some of the other choices, Dynavin does not go into a lot of detail about the operating system and other specs. It does state the unit has a 4gb HDD, but not much more. Avin or Avinusa has an Andriod 8.0 octacore cpu 4gb Ram with 32gb storage and sells the MOST fiberoptic amp interface. It claims full canbus integration and speaker subwoofer integration. However, the unit I am describing is for E and CLS class cars. This is a wait and see; I did receive a reply from them and they are receiving more units at the end of the month and I will follow up with them to see if they are supporting the CLK. My guess is this is probably more of a trim bezel issue than a hardware issue. The CLK is 255mm across the top and I believe the E and CLS are 260mm. Xtrons home page is very splashy about Android 8.0, but the units that fit the CLK are Android 6.0 and 7.1 quadcore with 2gb ram and 16gb storage. No description of, or anything about, MOST interface. Seicane has a real wow factor unit with an 8.8" touchscreen that does away with buttons on the sides in favor of a much larger screen. It is quadcore running Android 6.0 with 1gb ram and 16gb storage. They have other units as well, but no mention of MOST integration. From what I have seen, Avin has the most up to date software and the largest amount of ram and storage, and they have the most detailed description of the integration options with the original amp to provide sound to the speakers and subwoofer. After very little in the way of options and a difficult road to add a backup camera to the original head unit, it appears there are several choices. My CLK550 has about 30k miles and is mostly a seasonal car, but with two more recent mercs in the garage, this one needs a refresh on the infotainment system. Any input from members who have done the upgrade would be most welcome.

I cant find a decent head unit with the top dimension of 255mm, does anyone have a few links to such units, android based with at least 2 usb ins. Really hard to find??
I have seen some with a USB and an SD input but I have not seen any with two USB inputs. If you are planing on using one USB as a charger for a device, there is a an adapter that plugs into the lighter socket and gives you either one or two USB ports to charge with. That is what I use in mine to charge my cell phone.
