Hi,

New here, just want to seen if I could get your help regarding coolant temperature showing on display cluster.

I picked it up last week and faintly remember it was low on the display (but not sure about it). But, for the last couple of days, it showed about 90 degree on the display.

The other cars I drove in the past, the coolant temperature showing is always low.

Is this a problem?

Thanks,

The coolant temperature danger point is 120C (248F). You should not come close to this in Winter. Check your coolant level as directed in your manual, though.

Thank you so much for everyone's input. I really appreciate it!

It scared me a little bit, and I even thought: did I just buy a new lemon MB? The thing is this 2012 ML350 have been tried by more than 10 people, but no one bought it. When I decided to go for it, I got $7700 off MSRP, which was quite unusual because in the beginning, the dealer could only give $2000 off MSRP, then somehow, after talked with manager, I got this great deal. I was pretty happy, but a little concerned about it.

Happy New Year!

Yes, it was.

When I trie ML gas model, it was very smooth at start. However, the BT model gave me that kind of little over gentle "ta ta ta......" sound, which became much than the beginning, but your still can hear it. It reminded me the sound of tractor. The dealer explained that it was diesel engine, so that sound was normal.

So far, it is the only thing bothers me a little bit. Otherwise, it is a nice car and when I drove it on highway, I didn't hear it at all. Maybe I don't know diesel engine very well.

My situation is the same as yours. I got my new 2012 ML350 about $7800 bellow MSRP. I hear gentle "ta ta ta......" sound randomly, special when I start and stop the engine. The temperature start from 80 when start and run up to 90-100 when driving. After review some comments online, I guess that's normal temperature.

Thanks for sharing.

I did talk with a couple of service reps, who said both the temperature and engine sound are normal after they checked fro a couple of minutes.

The thing is, so far I have the car for a little over one month, I can hear that kind of gentle "tractor"-like "ta ta ta...."sound from engine all the time, regardless of warm or cold wealther (I am in north virginia, and it had both snow and very warm days in 60s'). Again I don't remember this kind of loud noise from gas engine during test drive.

Other than this noise, the car runs nice and smooth. Especially if I play some music, I could not hear it at all.

Those selling prices were ML's purchased from hi-volume metro/near-metro dealers on in-stock ML's at end-of-month Nov or Dec. Dealer margin above invoice is 6%, and about 5% back-end profit depending on dealer target sales performance - but in peak-season Nov and Dec MB was adding marketing dollars $2K-$4K, in essence rebates back to the dealer.

I have read the forums, Edmunds and a couple other sites where prices paid are discussed. Generally, the discount off of MSRP that buyers of the 2012 ML350 are getting is somewhere between 5 and 10 percent, with a couple I saw even over 10 pecent off. Is 10 percent off a reasonable amount to shoot for these days?
