HELLO there, i have a 2008 MB r350 4matic 3.5 145k miles, issue I'm having with it is after a decent drive around town, if i shut the car off it wont start back up or even attempt to crank, key just turns, can hear the fuel pump know its not that. after the car sits for a little while it will start right back up again. has full power don't believe it to be as simple as a battery issue. runs excellent when running, brought it to my mechanic he said the ECU might be bad. got quoted 1300$ for a brand new one with programming. is it common for the ECU's to go bad? or could i be looking at a totally different issue? Car only has one code getting thrown p2088 for a camshaft position sensor actuator. which I don't think would cause a random no start no crank. any input would be helpful & much appreciated

NO crank No start means, the ignition
does not turn over when you turn you key to position 3, to start the car.
Are you saying this is the case?
Because your explanation says both
Or do you mean, it cranks but but will not start?
Check your battery voltage at the terminals. Anything less than 12.4V is a dead battery.
Test your voltage with the car running - should be between 13.7-14.7V
symptoms =====> starts up when cold====>runs fine
===> when hit ====> no start = cps fault
most likely you need to replace your CPS.
( which equates to your p0288 code)
Replace, test drive it and then scan again, erase any saved codes.
Monitor.
