I own a 2005 SL500. A Service B text came on the dash.
What is service B at 38,000 miles? How much? Is it a glorified, expensive oil change? Thank you.

My last service B cost $199 bucks (Louisville, KY). Service B is computer generated. I only had about 5k miles on my car from the previous service. Service dept told me length of time was factor for my computer notification. Factores such as mileage and other computer generated history also generate an alert. Mine was time, more than 1 year from previous service. Car is 04 and currently only has 22, 600 miles on clock. glh

I'm on another MB Board (R129) but our SL500s share the same engine. Both services are really just oil and filter changes w/ some lubricating (don't foreget the hood latches, otherwise you'll start hearing a few chassis squeaks when entering driveways). Personally, I think these services are waaay overpriced. My independent MB mechanic performs an oil and filter change and, while he's at it, he inspects everything listed. And all for $120!! Find a good independent mechanic and save your money by avoiding a trip to the stealer. Good luck.

I'll be doing my service B this weekend, just a little over 36k miles on my 05 sl500. I did the service A close to when I purchased it last june, with about 25k miles on it.

I may also take a day off from work this week and install the slotted/drilled rotors I purchased, and akebono pads as well.

Just have to research any special tools aside from that star socket i need for the pad install. My girl said she thinks there's some sort of "retainer" on the MB rotors, but the looked like normal rotors to me, unless there's some sneaky mechanism to get the calipers off to do the rotor change....
