Hi :crybaby2:
i have purchased a 2005 c230 Kompressor coupe with only 48000 kilos on it and very clean 30 days ago, after driving it for a week i noticed the car consumption was outrageous = 14 to 15 L/100 , that s like a truck, so i said may be i'm having too much fun with it,so i decided to put 40$ of gas in empty tank,drove like a real granpa,very very low rpm all the time on C mode ( comfort ),always slow, so for 40$ it did 250 km total only , than on empty tank again i put 40$ and i drove it like a real champ behind the wheel,supercharged anytime i could, Schumacher on the road ,and guess what the result = it did 250 km total ( approxi ) same as low rpm,so the car is consuming at it s max ( conclusion) no matter highway,city , low or high rpm , WHAT S GOING ON , please help , i still have warranty but they are scammers i brought the car for something else before and they invented a story to make me pay for repair that was supposed to be under warranty(silver star montreal says when i had an engine light on and car was shaking at iddle that they found water at the base of the spark plugs and they blow with air to remove water,for that they charged me 159$ saying i probably shampood the engine which i didnt=exemple):crybaby2:, i want to be informed before bringing it to another MB dealer just in case it s another scammer ( we have many in the city ) please help , i mean it 1.8 l engine with a supercharger not a Lambo or ferrai ( or Hummer 2 ) . please help thanks.

If you could convert those fuel figures into american gallons, miles, etc, it would help me out, but I can tell you this. My 2002 coupe seems to average just about the same gas mileage when I'm driving it like a nut, or like a 90 year old grandpa. Well, I'm sure some 90 year old's are still giving it, but you know! :) Anyways, It does average slightly better when I'm driving slow, but all together, giving it gas a lot only lowers my MPG readings by at most five...

sorry , here is all the numbers converted :
my test :

Fuel cost = 40$
Distance travelled = 250 km / 155.35 Miles
Fuel amount
34.78 Litres / 9.19 US gallons / 7.65 Imperial gallons
Cost of fuel
$ 1.15 per litre
$ 4.35 per us gallon
$ 5.23 per imperial gallon

Fuel consumption:
13.91 (average) per 100 km
16.91 miles per us gallon
20.31 miles per imperial gallon

mileage cost
16 cents per km
25.75 cents per mile

thanks

17 miles per gallon is definitely high fuel consumption. I'm averaging 25 MPG with my coupe, but it has a different engine than yours. Of course, I think the m271 engine in your coupe is supposed to get even better fuel mileage than the m111... One place to start is cleaning the MAF sensor. If it's never been cleaned, that should help with the gas mileage.

thank you very much for your fast reply , now i consider myself better informed,i ll bring it on monday to the dealer and see what the sucker will event to make pay ( hope not ) i ll just tell him to fix it but knowing what could be the cause helps, someone also mentioned the O2 Sensor , do you know anything about it ? what it means ?

thanks a lot for your help very much appreciate it :surrender::surrender::surrender:

Yes, one of the o2 sensors might causing the problem also, but that would likely turn on the check engine light, whereas the MAF sensor usually will not. You can clean it yourself for about $5 dollars. Just buy some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. Remove the sensor from intake piping, and spray it down for a while. If you take it to the dealership, or some shop, they will usually say the MAF sensor needs to be replaced. When in reality it can be cleaned. That will save you literally hundreds of dollars!

My opinion is you should clean the MAF sensor yourself, and see if it helps. If it does not then take it into the dealership for o2 sensor check. By the way, is the CEL indicator on?

Also check to make sure you are using the proper grade of fuel. Because of the supercharger, the effective compression ratio is quite high and the knock sensor will really need to retard the timing (which kills gas mileage and power) if you use a lower grade of fuel.

2005 C230 consumption update

alright guys, i have news for you: going to work today,dressed up as the joker for halloween for office party, the car started shaking at idle ( yes again ) like it s gonna stall + my consumption problem,so i said f...k it i went straight to the dealer ( the one not honoring warranty ) and i said guess what,what you made me pay for problem has come back again in the middle of the road, i got so scared it s gonna stall there was so much traffic,he said he ll call a technician to test drive it, and a technician came that appears to be brilliant ( knows very well what he s talking about) i told the technician my shaking problem + my consumption problem , when he heard the story he started Laughing , he said THAT IS NOT NORMAL AND FAR FROM NORMAL ( thank god for that tech ) , so he started the car and right away he said many things, he said that s not a normal start ( i thought it was since i bought it) + the car is defenitly shaking + he ll definetly see my consumption problem , so i told him i was a member of this forum and i was suggested by you guys that it could be MAF or O2 SENSOR,he said if it was one of those 2 99% check engine light would come on,but he ll definetly get it fixed all of the problems,so he went to the service people ( i call them the one in charge to save the company money and make me pay instead) and he told him to open 3 service calls now,the service guy looked at him and said well dont you think we should wait until tuesday??!! the tech said of course no it s not safe to drive that car and anyway why wait ??!! the service guy than said directly in front of me : well he didnt buy it from us, the tech said : so??!! he has warrany and i cant let him go with that car like this---anyway i m sure you guys are not believing this but that s my story , so the car is for repair , and i had to rent a car because they wouldnt give me one because i didnt buy from them, ( what a service seriously , my collegues are laughing at me when they hear i m dealing with such service while i drive a benz and they drive hyndais and getting better service ) and i paid a rental car and i left , if monday they make me pay one cent or not fix my car , I WILL OFFICIALY TURN GREEN ) , will keep you guys posted...:mad:

Another thing I forgot to mention is the TSB out for a vacuum hose on the 1.8lt M271. That may also be the source of your problems, as it is a common issue with this engine. Anyways, hope he figures it out, and your vehicle is returned in good operating condition. Good luck with that. :)

Another thing to note is average fuel consumption is 23-27 mpg city.

If you drive aggresively and short trips, 17 mpg is not out of the ordinary. I average about 20-22 mpg around town but that's not driving it aggresively. If I drive aggresively and on short trips, it gets down to 18 mpg easy so not known how you drove the car, it's hard to say if 17 mpg is bad or not. Also, in Canada, you are closer to the north magnetic pole and it's pull on your car is reducing your fuel mileage :)

Wow, that sucks. I guess bad service is an all around thing with Mercedes dealerships. The dealership that I took my car to. . .they spent more than a day on it (my whole rear left wheel was jacked up, suspension was off, alignment was off, needed to a new rotor, etc.etc.) and they wouldn't give me a rental. They said it wasn't a "manufacturer's defect" so I wasn't liable to get a rental. Lame.

My boyfriend has a Lexus and he took it in to have his rear lip installed (he didn't even buy the kit at that dealership, I bought it for him at another location), they took more than a day so they gave him a rental for free. He was told by the service that they took so long because the rear lip that he gave them was warped, so they gave him a brand new one from their storage and installed it for him for no extra cost. They even gave me a cookie :D and a drink while we waited to get the car. Now that is what I call service.

When I drive local, I average around 18-20 mpg. On the freeway I can go anywhere from 28-31, but that's the beauty of LA stop and go traffic. The highest mpg I've gotten was while I was driving back from my boyfriend's place in the OC (about 45 min of driving including freeway and local). . .I think I hit 34 mpg. I wanted to take a picture!!!

If you get lucky enough to find a slightly declined highway, and set the cruise control, MPH can climb as high as 45! I've had readings like this a few times, but if you have to touch the throttle at all, say up a hill, it's going to rapidly drop.

2005 c230 kompressor fuel consumption

Here is the update,as u all know i bought the car on October 3rd for 23000$, a car of that name and price with only 48000 Km should work properly,but since i bought it i m having issues with the car and the dealer, now on Sunday i got so pissed because Silver star dealership wouldnt give me a courtesy car while mine is being repared because i didnt buy it from them,that s their policy they say whether you own a CL or c or e class doesnt matter,so they called a rental car company to pay myself and rent a car,so i rented one,on sunday i realised i m going to pay over 200$ for that rental car only for the weekend,i called my Lawyer that is provided 24/7 by the company i work for(thank god) and fully paid for and told her the Shi..ty experience i ve been having with that car and dealer , she says they should absolutely give me car and what they r doing is totally not the image of mercedes service, so on monday with my Rental i car i went to see them( my car wasnt fixed yet) and asked to speak to someone higher because i dont understand while i have to rent a car if my car is on repair and still under warranty,the service man basicly explained that they are not part of Mercedes Canada or America or any,but they are Unique, they are a Franchise,a Mercedes Franchise dealer yes, that s why they have their own policies,so i said you guys have been checking the same problem for 3 times now and everytime i have to rent a car,what F..king service is that,and that i will definetly never buy a car from them,he said well that the facts and we re trying to fix your car now,so i called MB canada customer service and told them my story,they than called Silver star and asked their manager to look into the car as it should be and fix the F...king problem once and for all,and the manager called me and told me he knows of my problem and will be tracking it.so now Tuesday i m waiting hopefully it will be fixed for good,other than that my sweet Lawyer told me if you have another problem after i can make the judge cancel that Freaking purchase,get your money back from the dealer you bought it ( Volvo ) and we are done , because here in canada when you buy a car it SHOULD F..KING WORK or you can ask the court to cancel the purchase because that vehicule is deemed none usuable or enjoyable ( if those words exist ) and when i cancel the freaking purchase than Volvo will not be happy and can than sue Freaking Silver star Mercedes. THANK YOU, wow , i drove a Honda for 5 years never had one single problem exept the bushings once (150$) and had great service. i had the taking the Bus the other day and Metro didnt use them for so long didnt know how to get in the metro with their new entry system , anyway , hope this will have a happy ending for me because Folks when you buy a car , IT HAS TO :eek:WORK.:eek:

Sorry to hear about the problems your having with the dealership man. Hope you get everything sorted out, and don't let this change your opinion on Mercedes-benz... :) Like they said, not even a real Mercedes-benz dealership. I don't see this trouble happening with a real dealership. I'm sure when you get this problem sorted out, the vehicle will run great, and get good gas mileage. Just make sure to let us know what was wrong! :)

2005 c230 Consumption and rough idle

UPDATE :
hello everyone, i think you should all know this,and PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE:eek:, after 4 days at the dealer since last friday,and as you were able to read complaints directly logged to MB Canada to get this fixed , NOW , i called them today and guess what , THE CYLINDER HEAD IS DEFECT and it was ordered to be replaced so the car will have to wait for repair,THAT WAS causing the rough idle and shaking like it was going to stall,for the consumption problem they will have to wait after that fix and test it and look deeper if it s related or not they will fix it,now knowing i just bought this car not even a month ago and from day one MAJOR troubles, and knowing one of the problems now, i really believe this car if a piece of junk and i should cancel the purchase by a court ( or by agreement if the dealer is reasonable), tell me guys what would you do in my place ( i m frea...king using the Metro and buses these days,winter in canada is at the door) , After knowing this problem i runned a search on internet and guess what c230 owners, this problem is spread like an infection amoung owners,it s a plague,run a search : kompressor cylinder head , and you ll see,forums and posts all over the place, thousands of dollars for repair, plus in some posts i read there was a recall : service bulletin campaign number 2008020002, apparently there is a problem in the design of the cylinder heads ,and the post was for a 2003 c230 kompressor , my HUGE QUESTION and if there is an MB SPOKESPERSON READING THIS PLEASE ANSWER ME : WHY if there was a problem in the design of the cylinder heads of 2003 cylinder heads,why is there the same problem in 2005 models, isn t that very WEIRED ?? , I AM 99.99 % GOING TO HAVE THAT PURCHASE CANCELED, if not other wise conveinced not to , guys , what would you do ??
CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALER---

Yes, this was a common problem with the 2003 C230 but not other years. There could be something else related to the head problem, maybe the car overheated at one time and warped or cracked the head. This is the problem with buying any used car, not just MB, or Honda, you never know if the guy before you dumped it because he knew what was going on and wanted to cut his losses. If you can get the dealer you bought it from to take it back and give you another equivalent car that would be the easiest. Getting lawyers involved in court can easily cost you as much as you paid for the car so it's best to settle on your own or with a lawyer's nudging.

If returning the car is not an option, and I don't suspect it will be as easy as you may think as most dealers are not doing financially well now, I would find out why the head is bad, is it warped, is it cracked, and get the mechanic's opinion as to what caused it, like being overheated. If that's true then their could be other damage waiting to surface.

Returning the car is not going to be done by lawyers or anything,just like in the U.S you have laws that protect you against lemons,here we have a goverment body paid for by manifacteres to settle these cases out of court + in my case lawyers are paid off 100% by the company i work for that where i got all the information before from them, as per law this vehicule is not suitable for use as it is intented to be by law ( always at the garage for repair) + it will take 1 year before judgement is made true but i m not hesitant to take action, i personnally have no problem taking legal action i can live with it, i m gathering some papers now and i ll be getting the history of repairs on that car since it s day 1, i ll try also to locate the previous owner ( an old lady that leased it for 3 years and it was her second vehicule ) , if this car happens to be problematic since day 1 even with the previous owner and it was why like you said she returned it, than definetly it s a lemon and the dealer knew very well before selling it to me,judges here hate dealers with bad faith, so i ll get to the end of this and i ll squeeze all what i paid out of them, the car is under warranty so everything is being repaired for free,but i runned a Honda for 5 years and it was never at the garage exept for regular maintenance, i now know why japanese cars are taking over the market,no mystery there... will keep you guys updated...and oh yes after lawsuit thearts and complaints to MB canada,the dealer called me yesterday to give me a courtesy car : an old smelly stinky Chrysler seebring. I should have kept my Honda:crybaby2:

C230 Rough idle - Mercedes won't fix

:( Hi everyone, after one year, and after everything was supposed to be fix :
cylinder head - valves - 3 or 4 recalls on major things - my car worked fine for one year but unfortunatly few weeks ago started again shaking at idle, brought it to MB , same B.S computer didn't see anything, there is a post i found on another forum and this car could brake on 100's of other major problems including a radiator called valeo that leaks into the transmission... i will bring it again , i wrote a letter to MB and i mentioned that i have so many repair bills the size of a harry potter book thick , i hope they will be a final repair to this nightmare, because at the end i came to conclusion that MB's are amazing to drive but they are terrible cars.....terrible quality....terrible service...so ill faith people...they are actually playing me until my warranty runs out...i will probably have the means to buy even an SLS which i was planning to do...but i ll go for an Audi R8, despite the fact that i love to drive it....these mercedes cars are not what they say they are...and the people in the service are worst...
