Can you provide some history prior to the dead battery?

Any dummy light displays showing on the instrument cluster?

What error codes were reported to you?

You paid for a diagnosis. Did they read codes? They should tell you what DTC's they found. They should have checked for fuel pressure. What was fuel pressure reading? If they can't tell you, they owe you a second diagnosis. IMO, the issue you are experiencing is more a product of sitting than the battery. I also think it is something related to basic tune-up and nothing serious. Dealer quoting thousands is bullcr*p. This is why I learned DIY and try my best to never visit a dealer. Mercedes dealer service might be a touch better but I don't trust them.

It's hard for me to get down too hard on the dealer for giving you a shotgun diagnosis/estimate... You need to look at it from their side,... "Here's a guy who wants us to do 90% of the work and paid only a few pennies on the dollar for the work"...

Way back when I had a shop,.. I had a few disputes about "pricing".... Typically,.. mister "cheap-o" would say sometime like.. "You're charging me several hundred dollars to install a $5 part,..how dare you!!".. Early on I stop giving real est.. You want me to work on it,..it's going to cost you,.. otherwise stop wasting my time...

Now that's not to say I ever over charged anybody,.. unless you were a real jerk,... "Man, that's going to cost you extra"..

OK,... that's a different story,... If your a good customer,.. then they should be giving you top flight service... Even if they might lose a little bit of money in doing so...

I guess that's what comes with being a big dealer,.. you can afford being a little less attentive to a good customer.. and not caring if they lose you as a customer..

So, Andy,... did they recommend good independent shop that might be able to do it a bit cheaper ???
