I have had my 2001 SLK320 for about eight years. It recently had an oil leak and I cleaned the engine and added dye to find it. It turned out to be the gasket/seal in the oil pressure testing port (just below the oil filter housing. I installed the new rubber gasket/seal and a new Al crush washer.
Now the car starts and immediately stalls. I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours and reconnecting, no change. I can start the car as many times as I please but it immediately dies. I can rev the engine very briefly after the engine starts, but it still dies within a second or two.
For the last several months prior to this issue, the car has been cranking longer (3-4 seconds?) before starting up, especially if it had been sitting for a few hours or overnight. There are no codes showing with OBDII reader. I have a bootleg STAR diagnostic computer with attachments, which I have used on my other MB cars, but the R170 is not listed in the software so I am unable to use it for my SLK320.
I replaced the plugs with Iridium NGK plugs when I bought the car and also replaced the fuel filter. The car had 133K miles when I bought it and now has about 195K.
I love this car and am really hoping someone can give me some suggestions to diagnose this issue. I would rather not just start replacing parts randomly.
Thank you!
