2001 SLK320 starts and immediately stalls - No OBDII codes

I have had my 2001 SLK320 for about eight years. It recently had an oil leak and I cleaned the engine and added dye to find it. It turned out to be the gasket/seal in the oil pressure testing port (just below the oil filter housing. I installed the new rubber gasket/seal and a new Al crush washer.

Now the car starts and immediately stalls. I tried disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours and reconnecting, no change. I can start the car as many times as I please but it immediately dies. I can rev the engine very briefly after the engine starts, but it still dies within a second or two.

For the last several months prior to this issue, the car has been cranking longer (3-4 seconds?) before starting up, especially if it had been sitting for a few hours or overnight. There are no codes showing with OBDII reader. I have a bootleg STAR diagnostic computer with attachments, which I have used on my other MB cars, but the R170 is not listed in the software so I am unable to use it for my SLK320.

I replaced the plugs with Iridium NGK plugs when I bought the car and also replaced the fuel filter. The car had 133K miles when I bought it and now has about 195K.

I love this car and am really hoping someone can give me some suggestions to diagnose this issue. I would rather not just start replacing parts randomly.

Thank you!

Thank you for your response 93SoCal400E.
Does CPS mean Crankshaft Position Sensor?
That is what I figured you meant. So, while checking the sensor which appeared fine, I noticed the IMAF tube had become disconnected. Reattached it and she's driving again!

Thank you for the suggestion!

I have had the same issue with my 01 320. I spent a lot of time working on this but I got lucky when I found the k40 relay module issue. The vehicle stalled out and this was a factory issue. It’s a simple soldering job. you can find all the information on YouTube.

this is how to fix it

on the 320 like ours will find it on the passenger side next to the battery in the fuse main box

Thank you for your post SLK320i.
My car started working again the same day I posted my issue. However, I did watch the K40 repair video, in case I have a similar issue in the future. Looks like a relatively simple process and good to know for future reference.
