Mine has been rock solid over the number of years I've had it. I believe even the 2002 should be fine if maintained and some of the problem parts replaced.

Have owned my 03 G500 for 10 years since new and now has 135,000 miles and still going strong.

 

I have a 2003.. Expect 2-4K a year in maintenance at a minimum for a 2003. Door lock's, door motor's, sunroof problems, Transfer Case issues, Catalytic Converter issues are pretty common with G owner's and parts are expensive.

 

Wow! I haven't spent $2,000 total in repair since I've owned my G! You need a new shop...if you're doing your own work I'd love to know exactly what is going wrong.

Mine has been really reliable. I too heard that 03's were more sorted out than the 02's which is why I bought mine.

Sure little things (window regulators, rear bulbs always burning out, TC in neutral reset, etc) but nothing that has been serious, or that I couldn't fix myself with the help of this forum.

My AC did stop, found out that a rock pierced the condensor - can't fault the car for that. And, every once in awhile it goes into a kind of "limp mode" easily fixed by turning off, removing key, and turning back on again.

Overall - tremendous truck, a keeper.
