I cant seem to figure out which diff fluid to use for my 06 E55. I've searched through threads where owners have used 75w-90 synthetic but when I call some local dealers they all say something different. One says 75w-85, one says 75w-90, and one says 75w-140. I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. Also some sources say it needs some sort of "hypoid" type of oil but not sure what that means or if that's even true. If anyone can chime in & let me know which fluid works for you that would be great, thanks.

My 2005 C230K came with a MB booklet of approved fluids. It listed part #001 989 170 310 (85W-90) for the E55 (W-211). That part # has been superseded by part #001 989 330 312 (75W-85).

I don't know if there were any changes to the differential for the 2006 E55 AMGs and if the above applies.

You might want to update your profile with your car and location. Location can affect the recommended viscosity of fluids. I do see a part # for 75W-140 (001 989 520 310) listed, but can't find a "official" MB link/reference to the 2006 E55 AMG.

BTW: When you change the differential fluid, remove the filler plug first..........SOP :)
