HELP WANTED!!! S430 - Additional Climate Control Menu (not Charcoal button)

Hi All

This is my first post but would like some guidance on a menu i found on the climate control module.... here goes:

1 hold down the REST button and Recycled Air Button for about 8 second
2 it brings up a menu with.... what looks like a choke logo(please confirm). What i want to know is... what are the numbers representing...?:confused:
3 use the hi or low left (to change item)
4 use the hi and low right (to adjust setting)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Many thanks all......

This is a well known feature. I've found some keys to the codes (i.e. what parameter is being displayed) but I've never found anyone, even MB technicians who have a complete list of what they all mean. Also, as far as I am aware, this is only a display/repeater, you can not modify any settings or give any commands through this function.

Do a search and do not be so lazy, it is all here on the forum. Check out the E class forum and see:thumbsup:

Hey guys, this hidden menu is used to check all the fault codes in your ac system, and also allows you to erase them which in turn unlocks the ac compressor if youve ever ran out of freon. Just did this last week to refill the freon and it was a great, dealers were trying to charge me to reset with star diag, but i did it myself

I will elaborate on this gents post after I have finished reading the whole section on this type of test:thumbsup:

All... Many thanks for responding...but... I am NOT referring to the following:

* REST button (Pressed ) alone to review the NXX. details
* REST + Carbon Filter Button (Pressed) for Aircon Diagnostics and reset.

I am referring to the REST and RECYCLE button that brings up the following logo /*/ (but horizontal) and only goes up to N14.00, Eric perhaps you can shed some light on this query?

Many thanks for the replies.

I sure can, but I would need to read the appropriate section on WIS first, maybe in the morning as I am at home now. The thing is I always use DAS so I have never bothered with the on-board diagnostics, but I do have access to that info, will let you know.

Eric

I was expecting some information to help with the understanding of query.... are you still able to help?

Regards

Sorry, I can find nothing, but am still looking.

No airco on the right side

Hi all,

My problem is that on the right side (drivers side) i have no airco. I have air but no airco. When i put on both sides LO and on the top blower on blue you can feel a differance of +/- 5 degrees Celcius between the right side and the left side.

As far as i've been reading on this site i think the temerature sensors are all working.

Anybody got any idea what the problem might be???

Thanks in advance,

Bori$

Does someone can traslate some german terms (UPPER CASE) to english ?

REST > 5 sec. AC 0 – 99 parameters without legend.
REST and “0” > 5 sec. AC 0 – 99 parameters with legend (german)
REST and DEFROST > 5 sec. do nothing
REST and RECIRCULATE 5 > sec. AC 0 – 13 vent doors test
REST and ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FILTER. AC error diagnostic and clearing (two AUTO buttons)
REST and REAR WINDOW HEATER do nothing

I just did this yesterday

1) hold rest and particle filter buttons down together for about 5 seconds ( ignition on , or engine running)
The air con screen shows "searching"
2) the screen gives you the fault codes. Scroll up and down to see them all using the heat toggle switch.
3) pop out the left and right auto vent buttoms, then press the the left one in first, and then the right one. The system resets.
4) ignition off, then back on again , and the air con screen is back to normal.

I think low freon is code 1241. I have done this to mine about 3 times in the last two days, but the car keeps switching the air con off. Maybe a bit more of a regas is required. The pressure check peformed showed it was ok. Maybe it was joking.

Thank you! It worked for me too.
You are right: 1241 is Low Refrigerant. Found out late late last night.
BTW, check this link to see most of the error codes: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/1218592-intermittent-electrical-issue-w220.html

Update on Hidden Menu

Hi All

It has been a while since I have updated my thread but I do have an update that might benefit some DIY's out there.

1 hold down the REST button and Recycled Air Button for about 8 second
2 it brings up a menu with.... what looks like a choke logo(but in fact is the FLAPS!).
3 use the hi or low left (to change item)
4 use the hi and low right (to adjust setting)

NR 00 Closed - All internal air flaps
NR 01 Closed - Defrost Flap - Left
NR 02 Closed - Defrost Flap - Right
NR 03 Closed - Foot Well Flap - Left
NR 04 Closed - Foot Well Flap - Right
NR 05 Closed - Window Flap - Left
NR 06 Closed - Window Flap - Right
NR 07 Closed - Centre Front/Rear Flap - Left
NR 08 Closed - Centre Front/Rear Flap - Right
NR 09 Closed - Recycle Flaps
NR 10 Closed - AKF - By Pass Flaps
NR 11 Inaktiv - Flap calibration
NR 12 0% - Fan Motor Engaged
NR 13 0% - Cold Compressor Engaged

Hope this helps and good luck!

Any idea how to make these values save to the system? Once I adjust them now they reset each time I restart the car.

hi thanks.
yes, but i did delete the fault code. (i hope that does not creat any problem or incorrectly force the machine/motor to work...plz confirm)

i also found my overhead module indoor temperature sensor wires were broken and with the help of a great post here with pictures, was able to repair that (will post additional helpful pics sometime). it was suggested at some forum that this is also the cause for different temperatures in vents but for me this repair does not seem to help as there is still temperature differential in right and left vents.
also the inoor temperature sensor readings vary a lot ...+/-4 degrees (i.e 22-30, 0 before repair)..dont if it is due to poor wiring job done by me.

i may not reach for duovalve thing...workshop visit seems probable.

thx again

SirHumphrey Post #26..
You just saved me a bunch of money...!!!

I just bought a 2000 S500 and the AC was out,and shot....
my mechanic replaced the AC and attempted to charge the system but the compressor was not opening due to the fault of the old replaced AC...
He couldn't get the AC EC cleared to fill the rest of the way and told me I would need to go to a dealer for the reset...*shudder* ;)

SO, I just tried your method and heard the compressor open and that "Hiss" was SOOOOOO awesome...

Can't wait to tell him to finish the charge... ;)

Luckily we still haven't hit the high temps yet here in Texas...

#41 · (Edited)
Sorry if I was not clear. 100% is in relation to the flaps levels and or compressor level. Use the left temp control to adjust the flaps. It goes from 1 to 13. Use the right temp control for the adjustment of %.

1 to 11 is flaps
12 is the main engine fan for the ac cooling
13 is the compressor

The settings don't stay. Once the ignition is turned off it goes back to default.
Sometimes when I am in traffic I put no 12 on to cool the engine down as the ac always puts on extra strain but it's up to you.

Hope that helps.

Hi everyone, you all are so very helpful and insightful.
hers my issue - similar to theirs

Last year my ac decompressed because my car overheated after i had work done on the car.. (clogged radiator and fans werent working properly). I replaved EVERY component in the cooling system..yes..everything.

Lastly i just replaced the radiator just last week. I Took it to have it tested = np..held amd no leaks. charged it up. But fireguys (the name without naming the shop lol) couldnt get the compressor to kick on (which i also replaced JUST prior to it decompressing and releasing the freon.

I have checked ac fuse, pulled the codes and reset the unit using the rest/climate control method.

First time i came back with code 1279. I reset all the codes.. NO AC/off light EVER was lite and its not now.
AC is blowing hot and the clearing of the codes didnt work. Relays are good.

I DID noticed that one of the NR codes is ( - ) and i havent saw that in any of the posted NR check codes.

Can you give me something else to go on or look for? Im in AZ and its getting killer hot out here. Im a decent mechanic and if i cant manage something..i do i have a goto.

The only code i got was the 1269 the first time when i reviewed the trouble codes. Nothing has popped up since even after letting it run for 5-20 min.

Code 1269 is a communication failure with the multifunction sensor (B31/1). This is located under the hood, on the front of the cabin air intake vent on the left side.

Can you advise as to how i can proceed/where to look? i think i had this code before and it was cleared, and the guy who worked on it got my compressor to work after the install.

Any help would be appreciated. Im burning in AZ hahaha
