Intermittent Electrical Issue- W220

Hey, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me because it really is becoming a problem.

I purchased an 02' S430 last year that has a few electrical issues. The car warranties are all voided so the dealer will not begin to answer my questions without me paying him a few thousand so I figured I would try the real 'experts'.

Problem #1:

The control panel on the drivers side sometimes shuts down completely and wont allow me to operate the windows/seats/etc... It doesnt happen all the time, but when it does it requires that I turn off the car and then turn it back on before I can control things from the driver side..... Any ideas?

Problem #2:

The center control panel A/C control has issues as well. The A/C switch does not function, I cannot turn on the unit so the compressor (and all the other A/C stuff) runs. THe freon is charged and the components all work, but not being able to activate the switch keeps the system from running. So... with the heatwave that is sweeping the east coast I end up leaving the Benz parked and driving my other car till the sun goes down... Any ideas?

Problem #3:

Where are the fuses and why arent they marked so you can tell what is what? I found THREE fuse boxes - left front, right front, and right rear under the passenger seat. But I hear that there is a fourth inside the right (passenger) dashboard. That one is a mystery to me and may be the answer to the A/C problem. Does it exist???

Thanks.

Hi Jonny.

Answer 1: Change Door ECU (Let MB check error code first)

Answer 2: Let MB read out the error code of A/C ECu

Answer 3: Check the toolbox in your spare wheel. There is a sheet with all the fuses described.

Hint: Request a printout from Star Diagnosis short test for history reference.

Cheers, Frank

1.) check the fuse on the left front side # 13 color of the cable is red/black its a thick cable with a 40 amps fuse, if the fuse is broken your left front doors cannot be operated. Most common problem with the old door control units were that corrosion is present on the connectors inside the circuit board. moist was present on the circuit board. on the new control unit this problem was solve by coating the complete circuit board. If the fuse is not busted, you really have to replace your door control module.

2.) For your a/c problem try to erase the fault code by using the A/C control unit knobs, heres how you do it:

a.) a/c switch "on"
b.) push both charcoal filter button and
REST at the same time.
c.) you can scroll how many faults the a/c system
has by using the temperature selector
button.from the a/c display screen you can see
what fault codes you have and how many.
d.) to delete the fault press left AIR AUTO button
and then press right AIR AUTO button.
e.) press out the right AIR AUTO button and then
press out the left AIR AUTO button, after you
did this the display will show it is deleting
fault codes.

Hi
i have error code 1455 (left defroster nozzle).
My ac overall is working fine but right side has lower temperature than left side (middle east, left hand drive) when both sides are set to LO. if i raise the temperature, left or right side may throw hot air too.
there is also another problem: over head module temp sensor NR 01 always reads 0 (and as per another post, may need cleaning/soldering).

My question (i dont want to yet go to the workshop):
if is delete the fault code, will it have any effect in future? and can it possibly resolve the motor issue itself?

Any idea??
Thx

on pressing the Air Auto buttons first the positions of both AUTO buttons should be inside, means the system is in "Auto" function mode. pressing it for the first time means the button will come out, them pressing it again means the button will remain inside.

That's cool news to me.
Since pure error codes are a bit useless, maybe you can also provide a error code translation ?

Hi I hate to bother but do you by chance have N22/7 B1113 Code description..?

I'm hunting for several weird ones:
N32/1 B1EB8 and B1D8C
A40/11 U0168

I've searched high and low and can't find anything :(

THANKS GUYS!!!

I really appreciate the information you all supplied, it helped me get to the root of my problem. It turns out that my AAC pushbutton is defective, I am going to order a new one ASAP.

Does anyone think that the purchase of a STAR Diagnostic system is a good investment?

Hmm, if youre thinking that €20.000 for occasional diagnosis are justified, then yes.

;-)

I perfer to maintain good relationship to my MB dealer.

Sometimes a tip to the right person, really saves you money.

RE: Intermittent Electrical Issue- W220

I've been searching through this site for a few months now... I've found a lot of useful info on here, so here's what I've accomplished...

My "AC OFF" light would not go off... hence no AC... Dealer said with AC systems it could cost up to $1,500 ouch!!!

I was able to get into the AC diagnostic screen (with the help of this form) and had the following codes...

1457 L/F Foot Well Flap Actuator
1256 Evap Sensor

The Evap sensor was always reading 10C higher then the outside temp...

I reset the error codes and all has been good for the last 2 weeks... the evap sensor even read good values now... :beerchugr:

Secondly-

My Check Engine light was on with EPC (electronic power control) in the Dash... I erased the codes with a OBDII scanner and no more codes for 3 weeks... I hope it doesn't come back, the MAF was replaced just one month after I purchased the vehicle. Only done 30K since...

Thanks to everyone who post all the useful info... it has sure saved me $$$$ so far...

I THINK EVERYTHING IS RELATED TO YOUR ESA FL COMPUTER, I HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THAT COMPUTER . IT IS LOCATED UNDER HOOD LEFT UNDER YOUR RELAIS AND FUSES. IT CONTROLS YOUR AC PUMP AND COMPUTER, IT POWERS YOUR DOOR LEFT , AND IF YOU ARE HANDY JUST SLIDE THE FUSES PANEL OUT AND TAKE IT LOOSE FROM THE BOTTOM AND OPEN COMPUTER . 9 OUT OF TEN TIMES THE COMPUTER HAS MOISTURE IN IT AND WHEN YOU CLEAN IT IT WORK WORK AGAIN.
HOPE IT CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR YOU

I know this is an old thread but thank you Benzboyz for the AC diagnostics info. It's 100 degrees and I was about to break into my failed AC this morning and a simple reset fixed it. I need to check the evap temp sensor though since it reported it bad. I hear those are common failures and fairly easy to change out down in the drivers footwell above the gas pedal (left hand drive). Has anyone had success just cleaning them?

Hi

I have similar case with my CL55 but when I try to enter the diagnostic in the AC control unit, it shows : ERROR....no error code or else :-(
I changed AC compressor, gas, SAM module passenger side...the light EC is off, but no cold air because clutch is not turning on

Didnt want to start a new thread

Sorry guys. I didnt want to start a new thread for the same issue.

2000 s500. Car has been sitting for 3 months. Only drive it somewhat in the spring/summer /fall months.

But my ac is only blowing somewhat cold on the pass. side and hot on the drivers. Per this thread I look into the finding out what codes I may have and this is what came up....
DIAGN. KLA V
ERROR 1000
1268
1270
1455
----

Now as far as I can tell, the blower works. When I change vent settings they do change. But I have no clue as to what these codes mean even after reading them in this thread and things "seems" to appear ok. I may try adding some refrig. tomorrow just to see what happens. Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

Thanks in advance to all that reply.

Hi Guys,

2003 CLK320 Coupe.

So my A/C Off light is on and cannot be turned off (to turn on the a/c). I just replaced my A/C compressor and went into to get the freon recharged. The mechanic wasn't able to charge the system because the compressor wont kick in because the A/C light is on and wont start the system. I know its not the compressor because its brand new. I should also let you know that I heard some clicking/knocking behind the dashboard whenever the blower was on. I only get warm air and it doesn't really blow strong. Not sure if the vents are even open.

Can anyone advise?

Also, can I drive the car without freon in it?

Hmm...this seems like a necrothread. I'd suggest folks to go ahead and make a new thread, and reference this one, unless there's a really good reason not to.
