I decided to upgrade my head unit to comand 2.0 and get rid of the old outdated audio 10 head unit. Also I wanted a AUX Connection :)
I did not want a aftermarket because I wanted a original Mercedes unit.

First Step All images are attached

Buy a Comand 2.0 (I brought mine for £150.00 which is cheap)

Also you will need a Conversion Kit adapter cable for Mercedes audio 10 to Command ( Got it for £15.00)

Mercedes Comand 2.0 aux input 3.5mm jack lead ( £10.00)

Buy a GPS Atenna that fits into the system ( £6.00)

Second Step

Once you receive all the things get the Command AUX 18 pin plug and open it up PIN 5, PIN 4, PIN 14 AND PIN 13 should be occupied by the 18 pin hole connection. Take a note of the four wires in which wire belong in the numbered PIN holes I just labeled them. (red PIN 4, White PIN 13 etc..)
MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A NOTE OF THE 4 WIRES AND PIN HOLES

Then open up the aux to access the 18 pin hole connection and add the wires you took out from the AUX cable to the required pin holes. ( They just click in) see pics if you get confused.
REMEMBER YOU ARE TAKING THE WIRES FROM THE AUX CONNECTION AND CONNECTING TO THE CONVERSION HARNESS LOOP 18PIN HOLE.

Now you have Aux sorted no more CDs :)

Now just fit all the cables onto the command system all the wires should be the same as audio 10 in the comand 2.0 (not including the 18 Pin hole connection.) Then just screw everything back together

Now you are connected with your new system

If you think it cost too much money don't worry I sold my Audio 10 with the tray for £90.00 :D

I can't imagine using a touch screen while driving. I would think it requires too much time looking away from the road. It wasn't that long ago that most automotive writers would criticize dashboard designers for having knobs that were too similar as being poor ergonomically for just this reason. Now there are no knobs and working it requires strict attention. Makes no sense to me.

Have you taken a look at how many buttons are on that command unit? You tell me that you can operate all of those functions without pulling your eyes off the road.

On my Pioneer AVIC I have the most important controls -- Volume up/down, audio track next/prev, and phone answer/hangup -- at my fingertips on the steering wheel. I also have the volume controls on left side of the AVIC control bar (under the screen) which I can reach to without looking, although I rarely use them. One other very important control -- voice command -- is at the far left of the control bar on the AVIC, which I can also find easily without looking ... from there I can ask the computer for anything I want using voice commands, most importantly calling people on the phone.

Then there's a million other things that this radio does, all of which are accessed by touch screen and usually when you're not in the heat of traffic. Traversing your audio file directory structure (to change albums) is probably the next most probable thing you would do on the road, and for that you do need to look at the screen ... but would you do this better with a Command 20?

How do those ergonomics compare with that of the Command 20?

The mercedes stock stereo I had in my car (Audio 10, no upgrade) hod better sound quality than stock radios from other cars I've owned and/or driven in.

However my first aftermarket adjustment -- Pioneer AVIC z130BT head unit only -- gave me a huge improvement over stock, even with stock speakers and wiring. The sound was much punchier and crisper, sounded more alive. However now I could now easily hear the limits of the stock speakers in terms of both volume, detail, frequency response, and distortion. So I couldn't stop there ;)

Unfortunately stock systems are generally mid-to-low level quality to save costs, because not a large percentage of the drivers of these cars (or any cars for that matter) care too much about audio quality when they listen to the radio or to music. So while most people will think they're fine, some want to upgrade, and unfortunately an upgrade usually ends up requiring all components across the board ...

If the Command 20 head unit has better sound quality than the Audio 10, then that's good. And if you have an HK or Bose stereo upgrade in your car, then I cannot comment because I have not heard those. But if you started with a stock stereo, and you haven't upgraded your speakers yet and are not yet sick of their limited abilities, then I would guess your head unit isn't as good as it could be.

Looks wise, yes I wish someone would make an aftermarket head unit that matched our cars' dash trim nicely ... but I haven't seen one as yet. I also initially tought the lack of button panels looked odd with the aftermarket unit, but after living with it for a while and seeing how sparse the newer cars' audio/nav unit controls are, I think I prefer mine now.

Hello Friends.
I've managed to retrofit Comand to my W203 200 kompressor 00' (previously there was Audio10). It works. But now Im willing to connect it in a proper way. In order to be able to use its all functions. I know that I can buy conversion adapter from ebay. But I've got almost all plugs. I need only one which is missing and in no way Im able to find its OEM Part number. I've found wire harness for ML that looks like the proper one to connect my comand. My local dealer is not able to give me plugs numbers. Only the whole harness. Does anybody know the plug number?
