1968 230 W110

Spotted this at the Classic Center in Irvine. Also saw it on New Years day 2016 at the staging area of Tour d' Orange, with no one around it. The color looks Black or Blue in the lights of the center but is actually a very, very deep green.

Hello, new guy here :) Just got this 64 220SE Coupe last month from some long time friends. It sat in their garage for 20 years after it didn't start one day. 4 speed on the floor, sunroof, red interior, been repainted in the late 80's, previous owner has swapped in a 1970 280SE engine. So far all I've done is look at it and research info on these cars. Well, I did fix a stripped out spark plug hole too and turned the engine by hand. No rust on the camshaft or in the cylinders, whew! After I get done painting a 1931 Ford Model A I'll be getting to work on this car.

Here's a picture fresh out of the friends garage waiting to get winched up into the transport.

This is an interesting car, it was built in September 1965 as code "997" and the data card shows "Standwagen" or show car, I assume that it was built for one of the US motor shows, most likely Los Angeles. The car lived the first part of its life in Southern California and was driven by a member of the Balboa Bay Club as evidenced by the window stickers, I was told that it was bought from a John Wayne Memorabilia auction in the 1980s and "The Duke" was a governor of the Balboa Bay Club at the time and what's interesting is the last sticker is dated 1979, the year he lost his life to cancer.
The color is Papyrus, much of the paint is original and I can find neither rust nor accident damage anywhere, the air suspension works flawlessly which is a big bonus. The documentation with the car is incredible, all that's missing is the original service book and a copy of the CA pink slip, everything else is there, including a period map from the Hyatt Regency in Phoenix, it highlights Mercedes Benz of Phoenix who were at the time headed by Mr Thiesen, also Brookshires- apparently the best place to eat a roast beef sandwich-sadly no longer there, also The Biltmore resort, synonymous with big movie stars including JW. An incredibly original car with more original paperwork and books than I've ever seen

My First Vintage Car 1963 220SB Automatic

This is my first vintage car purchase a 1963 220SB Automatic, bought 6 months ago in southern California. It is very good daily driver condition, so obviously my list of to do jobs is long. It runs and drives very well and will cruise at 70 mph all day long.
I immediately found a 1965 220SB Automatic which I snapped up for just in case parts, although it really could be restored, I am in 2 minds about that right now.
I will be needing expert help along the way but for now I am driving my classic car and enjoying it every day.

old car, new tricks

1972 280sel 4.5 that was originally purchased by my great grandfather. He was not the type that generally bought luxurious and expensive things but following the founding of the Honey Baked Ham company he was in a position to do so. In his later years he was asked by a close relative what he would buy if he were to get anything, and his answer was a new Mercedes. They next day his family took him shopping and he bought the car that would be his last. He was only able to drive it for a short while before being diagnosed with ALS, yet he still loved to wash, wax, and care for the car meticulously. Following his passing the family held on to the car driving it occasionally but mostly keeping it stored. Only a year ago were my father and I were asked to take the car. It was given to us because the part of the family who owned the car did not use it often, and they wanted it to stay within the family. My father and I have restored numerous vehicles before and this has been our latest project (still in progress). Currently we have repainted it and fitted custom 3 piece wheels. We still have to reupholster the interior and complete fitting the air bag suspension along with other minor detail work.

On a strictly personal note, I prefer the original look.

1939 G4 Offener Touring Wagon

Went to the Lyons Air Museum at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA. I'm shocked, shocked to find this vehicle on display. Especially eerie being a MOT. Any way, for me, it's about the cars.

Yeah. The hitler-mobile seems like it would be more appropriate in the private collection of some skinhead as opposed to on display in a museum, especially one associated with a public place like an airport. Very strange indeed, surely very offensive to some, or many millions. And to have the flags still on it. Man. It just seems to wrong to me.

My "new" 1972 250C

It runs, it drives, it even barely brakes! Headed for a mechanical overhaul next week.

Has a 220 trunk emblem for some reason, but is a 250C per the sill plate. Will trade a 280C and the 220 emblems for the correct 250C emblem. :smile

Some previous owner stuck tacky vinyl rub strips and "chrome" on it, damaged paint below midline. Can anyone tell me what color this is - paint seems authentic based on interior metal.

Final question - are these wheels appropriate to the vehicle? Are there supposed to be paint matched covers? I've seen pics of them both ways. I'm new to MB and plan to use this car for Sunday touring, parades, and as film picture car.

Thanks for looking!
